I change out toys and clean the cage regularly, my budgie could free fly around my room, we shared my room and I interacted with him for hours daily. We were good for around a year. However. Even though I never gave him mirrors and kept the mirrors in my room out of reach. He started finding reflections when I wasn't noticing. Sunbathing at the window and chatting with the robins outside? No, talking to his reflection. Exploring the floor? Actually talking to my chrome trashcan. Also my TV, laptop, phone, weight scale, glasses, my whiteboard, stuff that I never considered could be counted as mirrors were being used in subtle ways that I failed to notice. I want to say that he's been this way for about a week or two now. I have more budgie friends for him, but I want to give them checkups and ensure they are healthy before I introduce them to my first bird, so they are quarantined away from him. I know the process of getting an appointment and taking them will be 2 more weeks. Wish us luck

Wonderful video and gave me alot to think about, although my budgie doesn't really seem to interact with the mirror.

It indeed is a very helpful video :) Maybe I should discuss with my parent about taking a second budgie, because my budgie sees the mirror as his partner and shows the unhealthy behaviour 🙈😟 We had two budgies, but sadly one passed away last year :(
@anikawittens11376 жыл бұрын
Although, my budgie is almost 4 Years old Do you think it's a rational choice to take a second budgie? And If so, should it be a boy or a girl?
@BudgieWorld6 жыл бұрын
@@anikawittens1137 Thank you for your kind response, and I am very sorry for your loss. if your budgie is spending a lot of time with the mirror, is it because you don't spend a lot of time with him/her? or is it just because they are in a "committed relationship" ? usually when you only have 1 budgie , this is when you need to really check its behavior. In your case, if your budgie is not tamed, then yes I would 100% recommend a second budgie (doesn't matter if its a boy or a girl). But if your budgie is tamed, then you might want to remove the mirror and spend more time with your budgie to keep him/her a company and you can bring a lot of different toys that are healthy for budgie's mental and physical health. And just to be more clear, I have tried removing a mirror from a budgie showing unhealthy behavior toward its mirror, then I introduced 4 budgies to him. and after 2 - 3 months I've tried to put the mirror again in the cage after he was completely engaged with the other budgies, but surely enough when he saw the mirror he ran toward it! so please be careful. Let me know how everything works out for you. good luck!

@@BudgieWorld Thanks for your reply! :) Well, actually my budgie is tamed and listens good I have at least one hour a day (divided over the day) when I play with him and give him attention Maybe it is better to give him more attention, but i'm still in school 😅 And I think he thinks the mirror is his partner, because he gives him food and is really attached to it 🙈 I've tried taking the mirrors away, but than he gets bored and doesn't know what to do He also gets naughty, and that's when we put the mirror back 😅 I think that I'll try to take the mirrors away and really give him lots of attention in the Christmas Holiday :') I hope it works and thanks for your advise! :) (If it doesn't work, I'll discuss with my parents about taking another budgie (I'm not sure If they'll allow it, but we'll see :')) I hope to see more video's of you and your budgies! :) 🐦🐦

My mom doesn't want to buy another one, even though I tell her it is better for her to have someone in her race. She is however refuses and comes with the argument "She has us as partners" Unfortunately my mom doesn't listen, and when I put the mirror away from her cage she says "put it in, she can play with herself" -- Ugh why doesn't parents listen to their children

my bird keeps on flying over to the big mirror in my room, i don’t think she knows it’s a reflection so i’m really concerned because every time i take her out, she immediately flies straight to the mirror. and she also has another bird with her in the cage. and every time i take her away from the mirror she’s flies back to it, what should i do? i put her in a different room with no mirror to see if that would help.
