Hiya Biffa, Bit of a challenge for you here. I've got a high density city with about 170,000 population, which is hovering at around 50% traffic flow. I have an extensive metro system set up, and several rail networks. Would be very grateful if you could take a look at the traffic, main issue seems to be traffic flow from the residential sectors spreading out to commercial, all merging with industrial as well. Here is the link: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1739410019 Please note I am also using the Metro Overhaul Mod just to add a bit more realism to the metros, not sure if that is an issue or not, I can definitely remove some mods if you like! @Vespuchian5 жыл бұрын
The intersections so close together was definitely the biggest issue I could see. Funneling wasn't even that bad, although I did see a few places that were begging to just put a road in to connect areas together. Biffa trying to put in the bus routes really illustrates how isolated some parts of the city are from the neighborhood right next door.
@happilyham67695 жыл бұрын
I disagree. He had way too many big intersections close together and too many one way roads not allowing people to get to where they want to go. His use of six lane roads everywhere is also a big no no. He needs more paths for people to walk places and his metro was a bit of a mess. I'm surprised his traffic rating wasn't worse than it was.
@JETZcorp4 жыл бұрын
I made an actual roundabout (1-way ring at a 4-way intersection) for the metros in my city. And it's an above-ground metro so you get to watch all the trains going round. Originally I used a tight crossing intersection because I was imitating The Loop in Chicago. But I found that because I had a lot more space to build than Chicago, and the roundabout was cheaper to build and allowed trains to pass at higher speed. Plus it looks dank.

Some of those tiny little crossover roads build to enable the connector bus lines MAY eventually end up causing problems for the usual "too-close junctions" reasons because they're very short roads. I think that the gridlock in the first roundabout in 2:00 is caused by the fact that you allow cars to enter the intersections when there's cars ahead. This blocks the exits. I don't think allowing cars to enter the intersections should be a default. You should take in consideration what happens when that intersection is blocked. Just like in the roundabout: the intersections where blocked by cars, but only incoming ones, not exiting. If the incoming cars let space for the cars that are already in, you'd be garanteeing free flow.

@@darthkarl99 you have to force them to use 3 lanes. Overall I agree, in the city itself with slip lanes and all of that 3 lanes for everybody can make sense but on a highway or roundabout? 2 lanes are enough as long as you have a third lane for traffic that exits the highway
@darthkarl995 жыл бұрын
@@jakobeng1303 It really comes down to the amount of traffic between junctions. And thats open to so many variables it's impossible to generalise, but there are absolutely cases where you'll want it to manage the amount of traffic in motion. And whilst you might not need that everywhere having it at 3 to begin with avoids needing to tweak further down the road, it also handles brief peak traffic issues better. Anyone who's ever been in IRl gridlock will tell you it doesn't take much congestion to stat a major snarl up, but once it's snarled getting it to unsnarl can be a pain. And that holds true in cities Skylines too.

What about the 2k profit from public transport, did it improve? I like the way you improve the traffic overall, nice video again by you Biffa, it is top notch 😁😁👍👊

i have use the one way road for the train system(kind of like roundabout), but it doesn't go well. they always block the road, and u have to calculate the length for them. like those blocking the station.

BTW, When you connect roads and highways w/o ramps they don't use the lanes correctly.

The owner of this city did do a nice job so far, only disappointing thing is the traffic which could get rather moody in this game. For the roads, well I have a similar setup planned for the main road but then adding in things like parks and canals on either side of those roads to lessen the noise problem a bit. I am working on a laptop because the motherboard of my PC died on me, so I can't really do much without the game going nuts on me. But still trying to find the right setup that may work. All my gaming is on halt as I had surgery, so can't really do much at this time besides watching video's unfortunately.

I think the comment about the subway stations was more about the different subway station mods... From what I remember theres a few that offer multiple tracks per station. So, theres the vanilla station that's got 1 track... Then theres a mod that allows for 2 tracks, and I seem to remember having one that has 4 tracks... So having a single station that works as a transfer between 2 or more tubes is possible with the right mod.

3:08 lmao I have no mods and this is what happens all the time everywhere, 3 lanes - they all insist on using one and try to merge into the clogged up lane even if they're going straight anyway... it's driving me crazy... The game can't properly function without mods and it's kinda :(

I think that yellowish thing is a meteor, so I'm guessing it's something to do with the Natural Disasters DLC.

Around about the 19:50-20:20 mark when you was setting up the bus connections, when you was placing the little cross connections in the roads why did you not just use BUS ONLY roads as it would stop normal traffic crossing between the 2 roads and also allows access to emergency vehicles?? Just a thoughts and suggestion. Keep it up!
