Hi Annette! A lady gave me what ended up to be 8 or 9 boxes of fabric. I recently went through ALL, yes ALL of my fabric and scraps. I had it everywhere, in my craft room, otherwise known as my bedroom, (most of my dresser droors have sewing supplies in them, not clothes), fabric in my spare bedroom, fabric in my living room, fabric under my bed, and in my closet. I got rid of 4 boxes of fabric that as you said, I had used several times, and jsut wasn't using anymore. I gave it to my boss. She has 3 girls and I hope they use it someday. I had to get over worrying weather they would use it or not, I didn't want it anyways. I am hoping it will help me enjoy going forward from here! I am taking a break from buying fabric from thrift stores. It is hard to resist but so far so good! Thank you for the video! The quilt came out very nice.

I really enjoyed your video; I especially loved how you cut out the blocks using the tube method to make each square. I have seen other methods making the strip piecing by sewing strips on a piece of square muslin first. But your idea is brilliant!! As I watched your video, I couldn’t believe you at first didn’t like working with your scraps. I love scrappy quilts!! I love building blocks by sewing together my bits of scraps, and love the way it all works together. I was very happy that by the end of your video, you are now a convert and enjoyed making your beautiful scrappy quilt, It is gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing your process!

@@sunbeamfabricartI was homeless with my 2 children 6 and 3 years old, at a point. I would have been so grateful to have any scraps. I would not care what they looked like. I learned a good lesson during homelessness, to be grateful and not petty. You can't have enough quilts and blankets. No matter what they look like, someone homeless in zero degrees will see a king's quilt.
@sunbeamfabricart
@sunbeamfabricart 8 ай бұрын
@@jodeesmith1685 That is exactly why I keep them, and keep making quilts out of them to donate! (Even when I get overwhelmed!) I have been very very poor at times, but thank goodness never homeless. I did live in an attic once with no heat. We have some great organizations in my area that I am so honored to assist with my quilts. ☀🧵

Nice job! As quilters & at the price of fabric we cannot afford to waste any fabric. I try to turn all my leftover fabric into other projects using even small pieces for crumb quilting & the tiny pieces go into pillow cases for dog or cat beds. Some of my favorite projects are from scraps & crumbs! Love your finished project! 😊

Beautiful and true to the spirit of quilting to use what you already have. A very soothing thing I do after working is spend 20-30 minutes making 6x6 string blocks. Someday I will have enough to make a bed quilt for myself and be able to look at it and remember what the fabric was originally for. It'll take me years but that's ok!

I watched to start with because we all have been at this point at some time. I love playing with scraps but often don’t know where to go so just muddle around. This shows us we are not the only one with these feelings and we don’t have to be in love with a project. The fact is even though it isn’t bringing us joy it might or we can always change direction or make and donate. I often forget to sort my fabric into color piles. That changes up your block quite a lot. We can even cut our blocks or strips up multiple ways. Thanks for sharing. By the way love how you incorporated an additional use of your yellow sheet. It blends quite well and sort of ties the blocks together even the piano keyboard. Loved it.

One of the tips you gave me was: Separate scraps according to size/length .... I had been pondering that, but until I saw your video, I had not convinced myself that it would actually accomplish anything! (And, sometimes, life and living gets between a concept and reality) ... I think one of the things that convinced me of the efficiency of separating by size and then (well, you know better than I what you do) ... it was something I noticed that you did ... almost every project you do has a basic color at regular intervals ... (That, I suppose, is enough control for me, because as soon as I notice that concept .... Katy bar the door! I have been off and running.).

☀️. Yes indeed, that is a SUPER TIME SAVER in the long run! ☀️. And maybe you picked up on my method of NOT ironing or cutting everything perfectly when dealing with scraps!. I'm not about perfection when working with scraps, but mostly having FUN and getting things done! ☀️.

It seems like that yellow and green fabric (was it sheets or tablecloth originally?) just never runs out. Thanks for sharing

Great job! But I did keep thinking..how do you work in that limited space and with those large blocks to boot😂 I don’t have a sewing room and when I sew I love my dining room. Honestly, when I need that table, it doesn’t take long to remove my things. I try to stay organized. My table top is completely covered with cutting mats to protect it. I love that tables had it for 45 yrs! Lucky my house is laid out so my sewing stations aren’t noticed unless you come look. Also, that sheet looks very familiar! (KH)

My little space works for me. When I do quilt finishing my table comes out and expands. Watch this video if you want to see how I put it all back! Have a nice day !☀️. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3vCqYutZd5gsLc

I truly admire your tenacity and the blocks are lovely. I recently donated a small tub of red, white, blue strips to a donation center. Last year I had made two projects from these fabrics, most of which I had inherited. This year I made 9 string block hot pads from those same fabrics. After that, I was done with them. Hopefully the leftovers will be a "treasure" to someone else. Your Quilt is gorgeous!

This is beautiful. I was wondering what you were going to make. I love this. It brings the original reason for making patchwork quilts . They were made using scraps of any small pieces of fabric the maker could get their hands on. I find it a bit frustrating when I look at quilt makers using fresh new reams of expensive fabric, instead of using what you have on hand. Thanks for your very clear video. 👍

Our local guild will have a swap day where everyone brings a bag of scraps and we swap. Sometimes we look at them, other times it's just a straight swap, sight unseen. I like it because I often get fabric I would never consider buying myself. And it keeps me from getting sick of the same old fabric that NEVER seems to go away.

I sew any 2 1/2 strip scraps I have together end to end. when I need binding I use that scrap strip for binding. There are times when I choose a fabric specifically for binding but it is rare

That's a great plan! ☀️. As you probably noticed my strips were not nice neat strips of 2.5" each. They were very messy and very irregular! But I'm so glad I stuck with it and it turned into a great quilt I can donate to charity! ☀️
