@OhioShaves as usual another great detailed educational breakdown of wet shaving products. As of now my I'm not interest in a slant safety razor, but tgat could change. In my way early days of wet shaving i swore it was only mild butterfly razors, that so changed😂. If i only could talk to my earlier version and say yeah right 😂.

Great video review. The razor has great build quality, but it was a bit rough on my face. I have shaved with it about 5 times and I tend to get weepers each time. I am sure I could figure out how to shave properly with it, but I just have so many other razors I like more.

If you can bring yourself to revisit this razor, you might well find that a milder blade would provide for a completely different experience. Ladas, Derby Premium, Dorco Prime and Gillette Winner are my favourite mild blades.

I think the biggest problem I had was the soap was a little too thick on my face “ not enough hydration/water” and cutting through my goatee with any safety. Razor is quite a feat.

CK6 is excellent. I'm getting that razor to for my neck. Nothing cuts it very well with any blade I've tried. It lays flat against my skin and razors in general won't pick it up. Semi coarse but lays against skin and won't release. I'll figure it out one dy. I've been dealing with it for 50 years. Started with a Fat Boy in the early 70"s. Dad's razor. I get BBS every where else. Got a T2 ordered i hope maximum aggression level with that will pull it up. Love your video's. Keep up the great work.

David, great video. I am with you, I have tried a couple of slants, cheap and expensive. Results were the same, several nicks, cuts and a generally uncomfortable shave. I am sure it is user error, buy why screw with it when I get a great shave with the Blackland Blackbird Titanium? Thanks for the honest review.

It's been my experience with Personna Blades they are very smooth while being extremely sharp, shavers tend become lax and apply a lil too much pressure. I'm surprised that the Semi slant was is that efficient for having a smaller gap

good demonstration with the semi-slant razor there. Does the Trafalgar brush has scratchy texture at the tip? I bought the Simpsons 24mm limited edition petrol head brush that some says in the forum shares the same strain as Trafalgar. That brush is too scratchy to me especially below the chin area.

I got this razor recently and I've been trying to use it with King C Gillettes, the rebranded Platinums. I'm finding it very hard to get through a shave with this razor without cutting myself even after wearing the same blade down through a couple of full shaves of about 2 days growth. I still feel scared to go quickly but I do get the sense that I'm going too slow and allowing the blade to drag too much. I have some chrome plated Pace blades but I've been able to tell they are much duller to begin with than the Gillette blades. I tried those the first time and didn't cut myself but I personally feel like Gillette Platinums or Feathers in a Merkur 34C are way easier to use and still get me a very quick and extremely smooth shave without terrifying myself.

Thanks for sharing. The beautiful thing is the razor blades are so inexpensive. I recommend getting a variety pack to see which blade fits this particular razor. For me that's the struggle I have one starting out with a new razor. The razor blade combination Hass to be perfect for it to be a great shave.

I have that razor and the 37C also, the semi slant feels very smooth and comfortable but it removes hair very aggressively, I have a few other slant razors too and they all shave like that, I’ve had similar issues while shaving with it to what you had, same with the 37C, I think slants are designed best for 1 pass shaves, where they can remove most of the stubble in one go, I dont see any reason to do more then 1 pass with a slant because you don’t need it, the geometry of the blade negates its purpose for anything past 1 pass, it’s great if you want to shave daily and your in a rush eg. To get out the door to work I will say aswell that they work brilliant for head shaving, speaking from experience, the head is less susceptible to irritation also so you may not get as much nicks/irritation on a headshave, enjoyed the video 👍😊

I'm not a slant guy. I don't believe in the theory that slant razors are made for people with sensitive skin. I think there's way better razors out there that are smooth shavers that achieve a way better shave than any slant ever made. I'm just trying to produce videos that people ask for. I would say spend twice or three times the money get a great razor for life. But if you need to try $30 won't break the bank

@@OhioShaves yes, I much prefer an efficient closed comb razor, slants always leave me with stinging and redness on the face, when the alum is applied, they work for some people and others they don’t, but if you want to shave quickly in 1 pass and not have to worry about touch ups or any of that, if you just want to be socially acceptable for work or anything else a slant will work for you on that occasion, but definitely not for a 2 or 3 pass shave, the blade angle is too harsh for that, YMMV 😊👍

If you try to use the Kai with the Merkur 37c, you could obtain a depth shave, because they are larger, so they can go deeper. For me that combination is too much ... I feel my skin too tired, after the shave, despite the absence of burn or cut, such a pity because for me that blade is extremely smooth and cut very well.

@@OhioShaves Maybe is due the fact that using a mild slant razor you don't feel the blade and so you tend to put more pressure and/or pass multiple time over the same area, when something remain. Maybe helpful using a preshave, even after the first passage, and go slowly during the shave.

Well done David. Please let me ask you some advice not related to this video. I want to buy a Karve brass DE safety razor, and want to get two of its plates equivalent to Rockwell R2 and R4 plates. Please can you look at the Karve plates and select these two plates for me please? I actually sent an email to the Karve contact but till date they have not responded. I hate to bring this to your attention. I've contacted Krave as well with no response. I have a subscriber that sent me the Bradly with 8 different plates, open comb and closed all in brass. The weight and the handle is great. I have never gotten a good shave with this razor. Save your money. I have shaved with all the plates open and close comb and have not achieved a good shave. To this point, I have never produced a video using this razor because I don't want to hurt the manufacturer sales. They are a great company, and I cannot produce a video to slander their business. Move on to the Rockwell and you will love your life forever.

Supposedly it's supposed to help if you have sensitive skin. I think it's more of a marketing ploy, but that's what said in the wet shaving community.
@wayneholmes637
@wayneholmes637 4 ай бұрын
They were developed around the same time as manufacturers were experimenting with thinner blades if I remember correctly e.g. Rotbart extra dünn (extra thin) and others. That would make sense as the torque stiffens the blade. These days I don't think anybody makes extra thin blades anymore that would need stiffening up in the razor so I think slants are actually obsolete and no longer have any purpose.
