I own some takedown arrows which I use carry in my backpack along with a takedown bow. Less stuff to carry, less weight, and most importantly, less conspicuous. They also don't rattle around while walking. Not many applications for them other than stealth/concealment of weapon. Nifty in survival situations, i.e. peppers or bug out scenarios. Bottom line is that these are purely marketed for doomsday shtf situations none of us will ever experience but fear it happening nonetheless, lol! Good review, thanks for making it!

always wrapped mine with fiberglass reinforced packing tape, or hockey tape to make me feel better if it were to fail. they are a lot of fun! just understand there is a bit more risk if you dont know what kind of pvc you are using, always test the pvc before your build.
@monokheros53733 жыл бұрын
"Warm-Up" is important with PVC !! Just like natural material bows ... Rounds of 1/4 draw then 1/2 draw then 3/4 draw before full draws and actual shooting begins... When they Cato they Cato the more they been used in a day the less explosive

They're more for a survival situation I have twelve of them for my hammer with a 50# band and I don't have much issues with them. They work great for all size game, Kodiak and bison have been taken with a sling bow, they're really over looked for a viable option for a shtf scenario or getting lost while out on a hike. You would be able to defend yourself and also prove food, they have a pic rail on the bottom of the hammer and you can attach a small bow fishing kit to the device as well. Versital and dependable. Great review. Keep em coming. This was my opinion on these arrows I don't mind them I have taken hogs with em, use some lock tight blue on the threads, just a light coat it helps with the loosening I have also used plumbers tape as well. Have a good one

I assume that the inserts are secured with some type of hot glue. I would remove the inserts, clean off the glue, and replace with Devcon Epoxy. Take-down arrows are only useful/practical as an emergency hunting projectile in a survival kit to accompany a take-down bow.

Takedown arrows work well when coupled with the takedown bow you reviewed in your 8 bows under $200 series, which folds to only 22". I have that bow and made my own takedown arrows specifically to fit in that bows quiver. That quiver can hold the entire bow, and arrows, safely within it, and with an arm guard and glove strapped to it I have a rugged little shooting set up that I can keep in my jeep full time for hunting, or just to get out and blow off some steam.

Well It might be worth throwing in the pack for Western Mountain Hunts like Archery Elk! I have got out there leaving before dawn and coming in after dark where I run out of arrows.....not because of shooting them at elk but grouse. There was one time though I had a 4 arrow Selway quiver and you guessed it 4 arrows and I ended up shooting a cow elk 5 times. The first shot blew through right behind the shoulder. She did not run but, just staggered a bit and turn the opposite direction. I quickly knocked another arrow....rushed the shot and blew through her right at the flank. She then began a blind run and was hitting trees. It was raining a bit so, I immediately started to her. I was fairly close when she crashed into some brush and went down. I give her two more arrows behind the shoulder. She was struggling to get on her feet. I was out of arrows at that point and in desperate need of another arrow. So I ran up and pulled an arrow from her and shot her in the neck. I know it might seem harsh but, I did not want to lose her or for her to suffer.

@monokheros53733 жыл бұрын
A small O-ring helps keep them tight. Im looking at Long Range shooting using a bigger diameter forward 1/3 shaft ( fiberglass ) n a smaller diameter 2/3 aft shaft ( carbon fiber ) see if I can get accurate 200-300 meter shots out of bows I normally can only get out to 100 meters. Wish me luck!

I made a set years ago by using a short section of (I think) easton 1916 inside of a 2016 cut in half. They were the same length as my TD recurve. I used them for chasing cougar where you have to make your way through some extremely rough country following the track. I never did kill anything with them but they flew well enough that I would have used them.

I see these as being great for backpackers. In my backpack gear I've always gone the route of if I get lost i want to survive. So have looked at takedown 22 rifles and takedown bows as a mean of hunting in a survival situation or shtf bug out bag options. One the problems with going with the bow for a backpacker is the arrows are longer or as long as your bag or wearing a quiver. Weight is a huge thing as well, bullets are light but rifles usually make up for that weight difference. So these and a bow have a place for backpackers and survialist who want the reusable ammo benefit of arrows or can't have a gun in their kit.
@daigans3 жыл бұрын
it's still a good idea even if it's not perfect yet ; beeing able to to put those in a short bag with a takedown bow could be convenient.

I usually shoot wood shafts but I think this is a fair idea. I would first try different tip weights and strip off the flechings. I would then try bare shaft tune them. As you said in the video with the shafts coming unscrewed I would use bees wax or string wax on the threads of the inserts so maybe the would tighter without being a permanent seal. Then I would re fletch them with 5" feathers and call it good. I would use these for hunts where you dont have a lot of packing space or if I went camping and wanted a quick and portable arrow along with a good take down bow for stumping or small game.

Do you think it would be possible to make some `primitive` takedown arrows e.g. from bamboo, with interfacing cones as connection points? Traditional japanese takedown fishing rods are made that way, so an arrow made that way will at least flex properly... one thing I wouldn´t be sure of working would be if that arrow would survive an impact, or split itself apart.
@Crazymohawk743 жыл бұрын
Just an idea but maybe try a touch of Teflon tape (plumbers tape) on the threads to keep em from loosening without having to crank em super tight. Also these may be good to keep as part of a bug out bag with a take down bow, like if you were trying to pack small and light.

Kramer. I'm making the $15 board bow from one of your older videos. I'm at the backing process with the fiber tape. I added all the layers as you did in the video but I'm in cold weather conditions, so the glue wasn't setting. I brought it inside and it set but when it did the glue had shrunk and now it looks like i have gaps in the fibers/glue. My question is should I add another layer of glue or will adding a new layer of glue on top of the dried cause problems?

I've never used 3-piece take down arrows. I make my own 2-piece and use them with a 45# take down bow. They eventually break if used for target shooting. When hunting I never reuse arrows, so they work for the time needed. Those mountains off yonder sure do remind me of The Sandias.

First off I am not one of those guys. I don't have a bug out bag. I am not waiting for the STHTF. I don't expect the civilized world to come to a screeching halt. I have however been known to travel with an almost 40 lbs bow in the car. I take back roads more than I should. I have been known to stop and fling arrows and or lead a jack rabbit or grouse and other edible creatures. That is when a legal opportunity presents itself. I have a nice wood case to put my bow in. My draw length is 30 inches. If I could get take down arrows that would go in the case and they would fly well. I would buy a half dozen or so to travel with me.
