PED's can be hidden in the body through various masking agents, and it just so happens the China is a world leader in genetic and chemical science, who also happen to be fixated and borderline ruthless in their pursuit of Olympic success. Not sure if you've ever worked for a franchise but they're not meant to know when inspectors come around to see if everything is orderly, there's *always* a tip off and the Olympics is no different. They probably have time to prep. Additionally, corruption is impossible to weed out given there's many different olympic staffers doing many different things. 10,000+ athletes at every olympics, probably hundreds of thousands involved in elite level competition...you can't effectively drug test and police them all with a handful of workers. For context, Pan's 100 record is approximately 0.98% of the previous world record, which is the same percentage improvement Usain Bolt conjoured up over Tyson Gays previous record (fyi 8 of the 10 fastest sprinters of all time tested positive for PED's throughout their careers, and all were slower than Bolt 🤔 ) The 100m freestyle has only seen single digit improvements to the record since 2008, we're talking 3-8 millisecond improvements over the last 15 years, the average time improvement is 12ms over the last 50 years and Pans 100m time is the single largest improvement in the event within a half century which is when drug testing was first pioneered (meaning we haven't seen any large time improvements since they started drug testing). Lastly he's a genetic outlier. Being tall is beneficial for swimming and for every Chinese male who is 190cm and taller there are almost FOUR times as many Europeans globally in that same height bracket. Meaning there's a much larger pool of talent to draw from for European heritage swimmers, so you would expect them to dominate. All these things, along with a recent discovery that half the Chinese olympic team tested positive for banned substances points to a highly suspicious swim from Pan. We don't know for sure though so for now he holds onto the world record....but that may change in a few years if his samples remain in storage somewhere and get tested via different methodology.

The Olympics is essentially a Western led and rule-based system, just like the 'Nobel Prize' and many other Western evaluation systems. So, for any sport that Asians excel in and can lead, they will try their best to modify the rules and even cancel the sport from the Olympics (many sports have already been cancelled ~). Whenever it's a sport that Westerners excel in, they try to increase the number of medals for that sport (such as kayaking, swimming, tennis, surfing, sailing, etc., do we need to set up so many medals in these?…)~ Then, the awkward moment is, when what they perceive as white dominated sports (such as the 100 meter freestyle) were won by Easterners, they would become angry and do everything to discredit the athlete and the country he comes from. And there're incredible double-standards (such as Chinese swimmers having almost 10 times more urine tests than Western athletes ~). So don't take it too seriously, just have fun. We don't really care about these "glories", after all, this is a game that Westerners set their own standards for...
