I had venture 5.6 highs on my Antihero 8.25”x32” (14.38” wheelbase). These were an experiment because I am typically an Indy rider. For some reason I just hated the way it felt and was getting ghost pop on bumps and transition. I couldn’t really figure out why but I decided to pick up the Thunder 148s to give them a go. They literally fixed everything. I’m loving the feeling of the pop way better and my tricks feel more crisp. The pop is way more snappy and the grind is really nice as well. The only con I would say is the turn but I’m hoping as I break them in, I’ll be able to get them to where I like it.

They look and ride badass
@abechait23853 жыл бұрын
Team hollow 148 thunders are the best trucks ever. I ride my trucks pretty loose, and thunder bushings are the only bushings that get loose but stay stable enough without getting squirrley like aces or indys. I also like really low trucks on an 8.25-8.5 board with mellow everything, which is usually an antihero or grimple deck because of how good the wood is. Thunders have the best height, turn, pinch and response for my tastes.
@Bryan-kl5rr4 жыл бұрын
I like using thunder 147 and venture 5.2 for 8” decks with a 14-14.25 wheelbase since the trucks will push out the actual wheelbase out slightly. On boards with >14.25” wheelbase (DLX 14.38) i like Indy 139’a to bring the wheelbase back a little. Although right now I’m on an antihero deck with a 14.38 wheelbase and thunder 147s on it and it feels great too.
@kenneththam24804 жыл бұрын
Same, it depends on the baseplate too. Cast baseplates add less to wheelbase than forged ones. Thunder Cast / Titanium - +3.125 - 3.15 Thunder Forged - +3.25 Venture Cast - +3.25 Venture Forged - +3.4 - 3.5 I've mixed and matched my Venture Hollow Axles with a standard cast baseplate to get a comfortable +3.25 with a weight reduction form the hanger. Add in deck witdth and you have a whole other can of worms. But in general: Short deck + Short WB - Cast Short deck + Long WB (for the deck) - Cast Long Deck + Short WB - Forged Long Deck + Long WB (for the deck) - Cast
@draws79444 жыл бұрын
I like to check the wheelbase in relation to the length, when the wheelbase pushes into 45% of the length like 14.45/32 = 45,15% I like indys. When it goes into the 44% area I prefer Thunder, like 14.25/32 = 44.53%. But thats mostly for pop, if I wanted to carve/pump more I imagine I would ride Indys no matter what the wheelbase would be.

If you put Thunders on a 14” wheelbase deck, it will have the same wheelbase from axel to axe as a pair of Indys on a 14.25” wheelbase deck. I was having trouble skating Thunder 148 on a steep deck with 14.25” WB, but then I popped them on a medium-mellow deck with a 14” WB and it is so much easier to skate them. So.... get an April deck or a Primitive deck or any other deck with a 14” wheelbase for your Thunder 148s and it will feel much better (in my experience). ----- or swap in some Bones hardcore bushings- which will tighten the Thunder WB by about a 1/4”.... but then they don’t really feel like a Thunder anymore...

Thanks for the info I've been riding Indys at 55mm. I used to skate Thunders a long time ago and was thinking of maybe getting a pair if for no other reason for comparison purposes. Not sure if I will bother if wheel bite is an issue. I had some Mini Logo trucks which are supposedly lows or mids and ran into immediate wheel bite problems. I generally like to ride my trucks pretty loose. I've been curious to know how the longer wheel base of Thunders feels compared to Indys. I've been using 53mm wheels, though I've been thinking about getting bigger ones to see what that's like as far as being able to better roll over rocks, etc.

@@idmhead0160 Thunders feel very good when they are broken in 😍

@@jouhajohnny I'll probably get some at some point. At the moment, I'm skating a Mini Logo 8.5 deck with Independent 149 hollows, an 1/8" riser, and Mini Logo AWOL 63mm 80A wheels. Mainly, just cruising around on asphalt and not doing flip tricks.

These are close to perfect if only they had more wheel clearance on nose/tail slides.

Abdlh I skate just the normal teams. i find those kinda light even tho they’re the heaviest truck they make. are the hollow lights so light that it’s annoyinng?

deck 8.12-8.25 reynolds mellow baker shape rn. good wood but I’m not as consistent on this shape trucks thunder bryan herman 149 hollows they’re supreme for me because I like the medium-low height feel. love my trucks just a hair wider than the deck cuz I dont like looking down at my board and seeing no wheel edges. rides like a big body old school chevy mane. wheels spitfire street formulas around 100 duro mob grip and shake junt phillips hardware + bearings trying to decide what deck to try next

I mixed forged baseplate from thunder team lights with the hanger of hollow lights...thats the perfect combination for me...light and lower than standard. Works for steep and mellow decks. But i mainly right Real and Antihero, which aren’t super mellow
@idmhead01603 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised the hanger isn't the same for all of them, other than whether it has a hollow axle. I think that's how Indys work. The only difference in height was due to the forged base plate being less tall. Of course, the new mids are a different story.

I have Indy 144 standards and these Thunders. I always enjoyed the thunders more on Girl or April decks with a 14 inch WB. The pop feels perfect. But whenever I try them on another deck with a 14.25 WB I need the Indy 144s.

That's because Thunder push out and Indy pull in, the wheelbase.

Thinking about upgrading to these trucks and a 8,25 deck coming from 147 thunders and 8,0 board. I only skate ledges and manny pads. Thoughts? I want the extra stability but I'm afraid it's gonna be too big to get tech.

I skate zero 8.25 boards usually or bakers mellow concave boards with 148 thunder hollow lights with hard bushings 100durometer 54mm to 52mm classic wheel shape or ricta slims

Hey ben great review again. I definitely agree thunder trucks have better pinch and a more responsive pop. I really noticed there prime form when i was heel dragging crook grinds, which i couldn't do on indys, however i still think indys are better for 360 flips, steep banks and rough curbs because of the shorter wheelbase and added height over thunders

Ok i need someones opinion. I usually skate 149 trucks on a 8.25 or 8.38 deck to get more room for grinds. I recently lost my board and im now trying to get parts for a new board. I also recently borrowed a board that was 8.0 and I loved how light and easy it was to flick. I’m now looking at buying new trucks but im not sure if I should downsize to 148 thunders to get more control over my board or just stay with 149 for more stability. Does it even matter that mutch?
@yhnyves2108967 ай бұрын
8.25 trucks ate the best, you can use them on 8.5 with 3 washers on the inner side of all of your wheels and wheel feel the same as 149 trucks, and you will cans skate 8.25 decks better than using 149
