I don’t think I’m out of place to say that appearing in videos isn’t Christoffer’s favourite thing in the entire world :) I really appreciate him pushing through and talking to us though, because his perspective is so fascinating. I use to think married couples who didn't want children were selfish until I became a mother. My respect for people who make that choice has grown tremendously. No one should take on the life of another unless that is exactly what they want to do. It's takes a serious level of maturity and self-awareness to not cave into societal pressure and remain true to your own course in life. I love my children, wouldn't change a thing. But I understand and respect the choices of others.
@ZovaBe

I don’t understand why you ever thought you could have an opinion on other people’s decision to have children? I’m a new mother but before I became one I never felt the need to be judgmental towards couples who did not want to have children. How truly odd and completely out of line.

@@ZovaBe Wow... hypocrite much. Love that you are so wise and all-knowing from a young age, but some of us were brainwashed by society/family and told that we had to have children to have meaning and worth. Try having some understanding for what people might be raised into and appreciation for those who can change their minds once they learn a better path. You've got a lot to learn about the world outside of your own screen of experience, humility being one.

@@logicandlaughs she’s right though? Being so judgmental of other peoples choice about kids IS odd and out of line. Exactly, when you have kids and raise them yourself, which you should, especially as a stay at home parent, your life is literally the kids. Then the bf/husband and house, pets if you have any. No time for yourself. I have a teenager and 2 toddlers and good grief it would be nice to go to bed when I am tired instead of needing to wait for them to sleep first. Depending on where you live, things are varying degrees of challenging, incredible unrest, division, job insecurity, joblessness, etc. Knowing this is my kids present and future is a horrible feeling. Kids today already have such an existential dread because of the world they have grown up in, I feel for them. They future will either be more bleak, or they will turn a complete 180 and really shake things up and change things. Choosing or not choosing to have children is a very private matter and personal decision that is really no one else's business outside the couple involved. It is also the couple's decision alone to make despite outside influences and expectations. It is your life, no one else's, and your shoes to walk in on your life journey. If you feel having children is not right for you, then it is commendable that you know who you are and what you want. All my love and very best wishes from Canada. ❤️🇨🇦

I am a neonatal critical care nurse. I have loved babies and kids all my life. My husband and I went through 7 years of infertility treatments and 4 miscarriages. I almost bled out every time. So we chose to continue trying to have our own child. I am open to adoption, but my husband was not. It was INCREDIBLY painful working with babies , especially ones who were born to drug addicts. A baby withdrawing from drugs is one of the saddest things in this world. I would often get asked if I had kids. If I said no, we can’t have children, parents would say either, “Aww, but you are so good with babies,” or, “Well, have you thought about adoption?” Neither comment was helpful or appropriate! People don’t realize how expensive fertility treatments are. Plus, we bought a house and I had student loan debt. Please think before you ask such a personal question. And if you do, and the other person says no, then drop the subject right then and there! 😪

When you were answering the question about having kids, you said you’re trying to figure out if it would “add to your life.” It adds to your life in a way you can’t imagine until you have your own child. I had many nieces/nephews and worked as a teachers assistant. I also worked with abused and neglected kids, but until I had my very own kids… I didn’t fully understand parenting. As a mother, who didn’t know if I even wanted kids… because it seems like so much work and sacrifice, I ended up pregnant with twins. I think when having kids you have to understand you’re giving yourself entirely to another human being. You have to be there for them… sick, tired…. Etc… Everything revolves around a child. It has to. It changes everything about your life. My children have been my greatest blessing. I could not imagine a life without them. I feel having kids has changed my life in a wonderful and beautiful way. Yes, having kids is stressful and work, but if I went back to myself to before I had kids, I wouldn’t have put it off for so long. I didn’t know my life was missing so much meaning until after I had children. I only had the two, and had to have a hysterectomy and wish I could have had more kids… 😢 This is just my opinion and experience. I think people need to be ready, but parenting is something no one is ever 100% prepared for and once you hold your own little baby, at least for me…. It was magical. Parenting isn’t for everyone and that is ok.

Just seeing this. Halloween originated from an Irish pagan festival called Samhain and was brought over to the US by Irish immigrants. The reason why it's called Halloween is because it's a shortened version of All Hallows Eve, a Christian festival which the Catholic church adopted when they brought Christianity to Ireland. It's the same with Christmas. When Christians were trying to convert pagans they invented festivals such as All Hallows Eve, Christmas etc to coincide with the time the pagan festivals were and to try to make the transition easier. With Samhain, it was the one night in the lunar calendar where souls could return to Earth. Saying that, both good and bad souls could come back. In order to confuse the evil spirits people dressed up as ghouls to disguise themselves. It was the same with trick or treating. People went around their community to collect goods to give to the souls on that night and lit a bonfire where they would place the gifts. Everything has a meaning and significance. The church took all of these practices and the meanings and invented All Hallows Eve but it truly originated from Samhain.

One thing that annoys me is people asking couples if or when are they going to have a baby. I have friends who have tried for a child for many years and have lost 2 babies. This is a very sensitive subject for them and private. To watch people who do not know their private struggle ask when they are going to have a baby, it hurts. I see the pain in their eyes, but they laugh off the question gracefully. Out of respect, I really feel people should not ask couples this question. Instead, wait until they feel comfortable to share. And is they never share, then you should never ask. And if a couple has already together agreed not to have children, I feel out of respect they should not feel pressured to think they should have a child.

I love how you speak of your attitude about the seasons there. Not leaving when it’s “difficult.” ❤ I adore our snowy winters in upstate NY but so many people complain about and dislike them. I embrace all seasons, with the darker cold winter being a time of hibernating, reading and other lower paced inside activities. I love that lower-pressure time. I try to fully embrace all four seasons. I think doing this also makes me enjoy the others. It’s not dissimilar to how we humans can long for what we don’t have in life. It seems to apply to the weather and seasons too! ❄️🌸🌳🍁

I asked one of them if they didn't like the permanent darkness he experienced in the high north (much higher than Whitehorse, Yukon) or if it bugged him somehow. He said "yes" sometimes it bothered him. I assumed it was the permanent darkness that bothered him, finding it depressing. But I asked him anyway - why? He said in the permanent darkness it was harder to see the polar bear until they were closer.

As a child we lived in Alaska and while I don't recall it ever being dark 24/7, I do recall going to school in the dark and coming home in the dark, so very limited daylight. And the one thing that lives in me 46 years after leaving is the feel of walking on the tundra and the smell of the air. There is no smell like it and I want to expirence it again one day.
