The are so many different types of intelligence it's really hard to answer whether or not someone needs to be smart. Most people think of academics when intelligence or smarts is talked about but a good balance is probably preferred, a good all-rounder. Someone might be academically smart and know everything, but have terrible social skills while others might be great with customers and teaching others but might not know everything. The most important thing is their willingness to learn. Everyone starts out knowing nothing but learn as they go, some clearly more dedicated to it than others. IT is also a really broad field. Most people in IT aren't going to know everything beyond their specific area

@robmalcolm80426 жыл бұрын
T P I am starting a program for low income residents called year up and I don't believe its necessarily the health systems but more than likely the certifications pertaining to what you will be working in with IT. Of course college degrees as well. But if your like me. Certifications will get you far if you get a bunch and learn alot of different languages (Microsoft, apple, systems, etc) Like basically whatever position you hold in a said health establishment whether help desk, cyber security, networks, administrator, etc. It can depend on which. Maybe if you want learn all. Lol I know I'm taking advantage of this program they provide a good couple of certifications for free (god willing I pass) usually they cost 2-300 each out your own pocket.

Here is my take. You do have to be somewhat smart. You can learn everything by heart (good luck) but you need a logical mind. Sometimes you need to be like a detective, sometimes you have to be like a teacher, you need to document, you need to plan and execute, communicate, innovate, define processes, for sure learn English, etc etc... it depends on what level you want to work.

The fact that you don't need to be smart to work in IT can present challenges within the industry. If you want to be an electrician, you usually need 3-4 years training and be smart enough to pass multiple theory & practical tests, yet in contrast it is possible to enter the IT industry with no formal training, qualifications or experience. Because of this, good communication is key because you will be dealing with all sorts of people, from muppets to geniuses.

To add to that: one may be working with muppets pretending to to be geniuses.

My plan is to pick up on a Help Desk role. I feel like i'm ready for a help desk role but there are still some basics that I could freshen up on and like I said I have a strong desire to learn and increase my skillset. I've been looking into getting my Network+ and A+ certifications, on top of taking some of LinkedIns online courses.
