I loved all the conspiracy theories this game added to the lore. Like bigfoot being an alien hybrid that escaped and that while the moon landing was hoaxed, they did go to the moon but the horrors there were unimaginable. It was just fun and you could tell the people working on the game were passionate about the lore behind Area 51 and all the zany conspiracies.

I like your honesty and your no bullshit attitude, wich is why I keep coming back here, however there is room for improvement if compared to other well known game critics. The one feature I really feel you would benifit from, is to show actual examples of the pros and cons you mention in your reviews. This is an issue I have with most of your videos, that they are tell not show. An example is how you in this video, talk about the finicky interact buttons, but you never actually show that, wich would really deepen the experience for the viewer. Tough love, but still love. Cheers

It is actually possible to adjust your FOV by using a modified executable, but there is a problem with it, since the game will often revert back to the default FOV after certain cutscenes and the only way to change it back is to play until the next checkpoint and reload your save.

One of the features of the game is that you have a scanner that early-game you can use to check what is in people's pockets. My friends and I had a good laugh at finding a pedophile: candy and condoms. Also, I can't praise this game enough for the absolute meatiness of its guns sounds and recoil. Everything felt powerful as all hell and the only game I can think of off the top of my head that does a really good job of that, too, is Halo 4.
@InfernalMonsoon7 жыл бұрын
Imo, Doom 2016 beats 'em both. I would say Shadow Warrior 2 does as well but that game is bulletsponge city that it destroys that impactful feeling.
@HouseOfBrickOne7 жыл бұрын
DarkStarAngelo I was actually disappointed by what I thought was somewhat weak-sounding weapons. The only guns that I thought had notable force behind them were the Double-Barrel, the ironically underpowered Plasma Gun and the Gauss Gun. The OOMPH of the game came from the accompanying soundtrack which more than made up for the fairly blasé weapon sounds.
@InfernalMonsoon7 жыл бұрын
You think so? Odd, I never actually had that feeling myself. I think it all sounds and feels great - I think it also comes down to how enemies react when getting shot, like seeing a hellknight flinch violently to the side or how possessed gets its torso blown off with that little satisfying screen shake or how blasting a mancubus in the belly shreds it apart with its guts hanging out or how a player's multiplayer avatar can have massive chunks of themselves blown up and still run around wreckin' face. It never gets old for me :)
@Bizargh7 жыл бұрын
Halo 4 definitely did decide "Halo: Reach has the gunplay & animations, but the audio lacked... punch". Even though I'll always prefer Halo: Reach for being the culmination of it's weapons' signature audio (Although I need not admit human stationary turrets never had good audio akin to the Warthog's Chaingun that felt neither believable or satisfying), Halo 4 continues to deliver in an over-the-top & cathartic execution (Picking up a SAW or Human Turret and just letting rip just makes me want to roar a testosterone-fueled Battle Cry like Rex Power Colt or Heavy Weapons Guy letting loose with a Minigun) & even Halo 2 Anniversary's Sniper Rifle audio revision makes you feel like you have the power of a god in your hands, something Halo 5: Guardians really just threw away along with signature (All the Covie's inventory makes mostly the same pews, the SAW sounds like a pea-shooter & most human weapons sound "neutered" compared to Halo 4 or even the Anniversary Editions). I don't know any game to have F.E.A.R's shotgun beat though. That thunderous "BANG!" accompanied by a mist of blood 'n' gibs or a corpse flying across the room concluded with a metallic pump action never gets old! DOOM 2016 definitely has that, but perhaps Mick Gordon's music dominates the sound space too much for the weapons to sound more than a beat in the chorus of the glory massacre (But the impact & enemy reactions hold the gunplay up effortlessly alone). And funnily, Project Reality's M1918 BAR makes me feel an uncanny need to cover my ears as it thunders 30.06's toward it's target, along with an arsenal that sounds all-too close to reality (Something Squad continues all-too well). At the end of the day, when you're playing a shooter, close or far from reality, you need to feel like you're holding the part. Whether you're a part of a squad in Project Reality, corner peaking in Rainbow Six, strafing/gliding in Destiny, among mammoth-scale battles in PlanetSide, exploring alien worlds in Halo & Metroid Prime or dosh-earning in Killing Floor, you need to know when you shoot something, it feels it, and what you're shooting it with has both the animation & audio to make you believe that.

Since GmanLives did not leave any instructions on how to get this game, there are two options. 1. You can get the "Project Dreamland" source port. This is a fan-made project, and is also required to play online. However, it also requires a constant Internet connection to play single-player, and doesn't support the low FOV fix, which fixes the issue where some cut-scenes could reset the value back to 60 if changed in the .ini. 2. You can follow the instructions on the PCGamingWiki, which state to get the game, then install the 1.2 patch, and then the FOV fix. You can get these from various places, but the versions I would recommend are getting the game from Moddb, installing the 1.2 patch from FilePlanet, and then the FOV fix linked by the Wiki. You can also get the patch from Patch Scrolls, but that site looks extremely sketchy, and for some reason the file has a score of 4.4 out of 10.

This game was absolutely bonkers in every way. It starts out as a typical military FPS action game where you and your squad are investigating an accident at Area 51, dealing with the people who mutated into monsters because of the accident, and trying to support an earlier advance team. Then, every single person is horrifically killed, and you end up getting infected with the alien virus. Now, the game changes into a survival horror FPS where you're left all by yourself to face down alien soldiers and the Illuminati, while Marilyn Manson occasionly possesses dead bodies telepathically to talk to you through!
