Compared to Spain standards.... Everyone here lives in flats, inside big buildings. I lived in UK for a while and it shocked me how even the "worst" neighborhoods were full of terraced houses, that is for rich people here. It depends of what you are used to, it never occurred to me before that we all Spaniards lived in shoe boxes. It makes me a little angry, honestly, how unaware I was of the importance of having YOUR space, not sharing the door, the stairs, the elevator, not hearing your neighbors aaaall day, or even having the littlest tiniest piece of grass.
@fictionfatale39134 жыл бұрын
@@atembleq I was an au pair in Spain and I noticed that - even wealthy people live in apartments, I was a nanny for an affluent family, and even they lived in a flat. My brother in law is Spanish, though he grew up in the remote countryside and his family ran a restaurant. Though in the UK many houses are split into two or even three smaller flats, so they may look like terraces but there are 2 or three families living there.

It will take years to fix up your house. And when you get it done, you will want to tackle some of your earlier projects again, because you have lived with it and discovered that there are things that you would do differently. And, that is a good thing. Technology will change, styles will change, you will want to take better advantage of natural light, etc. Life is about the journey. BTW, I am thankful that my laundry isn’t upstairs. I would rather clean out from a burst or overflowing pipe from my cement floor in the garage than have a second floor washing machine leak and destroy the floor upstairs and the ceiling downstairs, and possibly destroy the basement ceiling as well.

Those dirty pants in the fireplace are hilarious. Quick tip if you find any single shoes hidden in cubby holes or small spaces, one shoe all by itself with no mate, that was an old practice. People would build shoes into walls or hide them for good luck or protection of the house. I'm sure you can look up what they mean. Apparently it's also not unusual to find clothes squirreled away in strange places in old homes. I'm not aware that the clothes would have any meaning but I've seen this before on videos about houses. Those pants sure are funny! Good luck with your awesome house

I like this series and am glad you are levelling with us about the costs of things as you go. I just hope you are making sure to build things to code for Nova Scotia. Especially for the things like any insulation and plumbing you might have to do.

Don't forget your land too! 2 acres, the type of land, it seems to be flat, useable land, and you have a stream running on it! Nothing like having your own cottage- Heaven! BTW- Chickens are fun, they have their own individual personalities :)

I'm sorry people have been lame and who tries to tell others what to do with their lives? Who am I kidding, it's the internet hahaha. So glad you are happy and loving this experience. I think your house is magnificent. I live in Australia and have dreamed of buying and renovating a beauty like this (with 45+ degree celcius summers though and no air con in old homes that is a BIG challenge haha). I was so excited for you when you discovered and shared your secret spooky room. What a gem! That is going to be an incredible bedroom!!!

I am so impressed that you just walked outside in -1° much less doing it in a t-shirt dress and tennis shoes and like stayed out their casually without shivering. (Writing from 1 hour North of Dallas where we just got snow for the first time in 6 years.) Mad respect. Couldn’t be me.

Lol me just remembering Canadians measure temp in Celsius. So still cold but -1° C is like 30° F and -1° F is like -18° C. Definitely makes a difference.

It’s not everyday you come across a pair of pants in your mantelpiece! 🤣🤣 sooo glad you were wearing gloves when you picked them up! Who knows though...perhaps this could provide the basis of a new short story? 😇 loving your house series, Ariel ❤️

Loving these house videos! If you are comfortable sharing, could you do a cost breakdown of some of the room renovations or projects as you complete them? Interested to see what that looks like since you are doing so much work yourself.

I discovered your channel from the first video in this series on the day it was posted and I am in love with this series! Thank you for taking us along on the ride. It is so nice to see a realistic renovation series from someone who isn't rich.

I would love a video of the resources you’ve used to learn the skills you need to renovate! Like tearing up the floor and how to properly sand and paint for longevity etc etc

Hi Ariel One of your patreon members ask you when do you think or how long it will take you to finish work on your house. You tried to explain when, but the truthful answer to that is an infinite answer. You will always be working on your home to improve it.

Really loving watching your adventure unfold! I live north of Toronto, and the house prices are INSANE so watching this makes me so itchy to move. Your house (and land!) is so gorgeous! Also, thank you for your answer about ghosts. I am such a nonbeliever, it annoys me a lot when people just assume that any old house is absolutely riddled with unrestful spirits. It's an old house. Creaky weird noises are just par for the course. Riddled with weird dirt and possibly vermin, yes. Ghosts, no.

I don't know about Canadian beavers, but in Europe, you have to be very carefull when dealing with a dam like destroying it or anything. I suggest checking your wildlife protection laws before destroying anything ! They create brand new humid zones that are super important for the biodiversity. Also beavers are nocturnal so just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are not there
