I'm not far from you (closer to the lake), and just picked up a Platinum 24 SHO (2019 model) after running a compact 24 last year. Fingers crossed for a ton of snow this year!

You’ll love your Platinum SHO. It makes snow removal enjoyable. I’m glad I have a machine as I think it’s going to be tough to find the Platinums & pro models this winter.

That’s a beautiful machine…saw it in Pauls intro video Of the new Ariens machines. I think that’s money we’ll spent as s h of the SHO Platinum level machines and up are going g to be tough to get. Your going to love your new machine …put up a video if you get a chance to lay waste to a blizzard this year. Fear no blizzard when you have an Ariens in your garage!

I live in a seniors complex. Many unable to shovel. Last two years I was doing up to 10 drives at times but did not like the blowers I was using. So got rid of them. Miss doing the job this year. Wishing I could afford an Ariens blower.

Hi Tom… It’s very nice of you to try and help your neighbors out. All the quality snow blowers are expensive. The three best machines right now are Ariens, Toro, and Honda. (IMHO) Ariens and Toro are about the same price, & Honda is about $1500 more than either. I paid $1450 for my SHO in 2019. I know with proper routine maintenance I can expect to get at least 20 years out of it. That’s $72.50 a year. The Ariens 28” SHO is the best bang for the buck in snowblowers right now at $2699. That’s $135 a year for 20 years. Used Ariens machines are also an option. If you watch the adds there are some deals out there. A guy on one of the snow blower forums shared an add for a gently used 2017 Platinum SHO he saw from a guy moving South that just wanted it gone for $250. Now smoking deals like that don’t come along every day, but there are good used machines out there for a considerable savings. I hope you find your way to an Ariens. You won’t be disappointed in the quality of the build, and the ease of use. I wish you good luck in your quest, as your heart if definitely in the right place.

@Blowing Snow 4fun lady a few doors away has her brother come in heavy snow falls to blow her drive. I used to do it but now no blower. Thus guy has a Ariens, loves it, it even wows through fairly wet stuff. Here in Newfoundland snow can be very wet and a good blower is needed Unfortunately I cannot afford another, I have been helping a single mom with 5 kids. She needs the help so I placed my financial help towards her. Sure miss getting out in the snow though, mainly try to keep my drive clean by shovel even though I do not drive anymore.

@@tomkeats1944 Hi Tom. Just a suggestion, why don’t you stop by your local shops that sell/service snow blowers. Tell them about your having helped your elderly neighbors, and wanting to continue. See if maybe they might take machines in in trade that you could do a little work on, and blow some snow. If you identified any issues with the machine, I would be happy to find videos on KZbin that show any repairs you may need to do. That way you can concentrate on getting g it ready to blow snow. Thanks for the positive comment Tom, and I hope you get back to blowing snow! Let me know if you need my assistance.

how do you start that snowblower? do you always pull start it or do you use the electric starter? is that engine EFI?
@blowingsnow4fun
@blowingsnow4fun Жыл бұрын
Hey. I pull start it 90% of the time as it starts very easy. I occasionally use the electric start as recommended by DonnyBoy to keep it functional, as I’m in my 60’s and can see the day eventually coming where my shoulder won’t like the pull start. We ordered and waited for this machine (I went together with some friends that needed machines also and bought 3 SHO’s to get a better price). All three of us agreed we would rather have carbs because they were easily user serviceable rather than the EFI which if it fails, you need to replace $ parts, usually take it to a dealer for diagnosis,as well as the extra cost when purchasing. We do not regret that decision as the AX engine turns over very easily even in sub zero temps. I’ve had a lot of snow blowers ( brands), and this is the finest one I’ve every owned. 0 problems or failures in the first 3 seasons. All three of us burn premium no ethanol gas in all our small engines with a tablespoon of Stabil, and a tablespoon of Sea Foam mixed into a each container. That helps eliminate any fuel related failures down the road. Thanks for the question, and please subscribe to my channel as I post videos regularly throughout the winter.

@@blowingsnow4fun you bought 3 snowblowers at once to get a better price? that's good info, I never knew that could be done by customers. I'll remember that, thanks. I'm actually surprised you didn't go with EFI. I've owned 3 cars with EFI and never had to service the EFI in any of them. Plus EFI is more fuel efficient and helps produce maximum horsepower. Do you know other people who had problems with an EFI snowblower engine?
@blowingsnow4fun
@blowingsnow4fun Жыл бұрын
@@mrbubetube We had to shop around a little. Some dealers were like the price is the price whether you buy one or 5. Don’t know what the dealer mark up is on these, but we were able to get $50 off right off the top on each machine. Then a little bit more for picking them up instead of having them delivered, and paying cash.

I read the Ariens snowblower Tapatalk forum frequently. I wouldn’t say it happens all the time, but EFI snow blowers have problems as I think the tech is not quite there yet on snow blowers. It’s usually a pump or battery problem. Guys were buying new machines last winter, having failures, and waiting months to use there machines because they couldn’t get parts. With an EFI blower they are running great, you shut them off, and they won’t start…no warning signs like with a carbed machine. Usually, from what I’ve read/seen on forums, it’s a trip to the dealer to get it diagnosed, then $$ for a new fuel pump, besides the extra cost up front. I’ve used EFI machines at my dealer, they start great, and run nice, but I stand close to the machine, so my jacket hits that stupid knob on the Ariens, and the engine speed changes. Guys have been complaining about this problem for years, and the knobs are in the same place, and they turn just as easy. My carbed SHO starts east and runs great, and so do my buddies. If another storm is on the way, and I have problems, I know I can fix a carb, with EFI it’s off to the dealer with the machine, and you know your not getting that machine back before the next storm, or how long it’s going to take? I’d be left to shovel which is a deal breaker for me! Some guys have them and love them. My engine is so powerful I don’t need any advantage that EFI might offer, and for the little bit of gas it would save me over the course of the winter it’s not worth the trade off in reliability(IMO)
@blowingsnow4fun
@blowingsnow4fun Жыл бұрын
Yes I do, and the snowblower forums have a significant amount of guys that have problems. Two weak points seem to be the pump and the battery charging system. I understand there has been very little to no improvements made on the EFI on the snow blowers since it came out. On cars they made improvements every year. It’s not very straightforward to diagnose at home, and usually requires a trip to the dealer. The pump is fairly expensive, so it’s not like keeping a spare carb if your in a pinch. I’m sure eventually they’ll get the bugs worked out, but that hasn’t happened yet.
