She was blonde, blue eyed, perfectly fashioned 16 years...on the back of my motorcycle. Kathy Fiala. Never forgot her singing this song as we rode my first new motorcycle out of the HS parking lot. Speaking with her, decades later...she did not recall. I'm still riding.

Man, I dig your story. Sad that she forgot. In '70 I gave a hot chick a ride on my 350 Ducati Sebring. I wonder if she remembers burning her nylon on the exhaust? (Thankfully her leg did not get burned, just her stocking) Haven't seen her since 1972. Hope to before our time runs out.

I was at this concert in Worthington, MA. I was 15yrs old and went with my best friend. They handed out free, yes free posters for this concert and after the show we went back stage and Arlo signed our posters. "I still have that poster..".(say it in an Arlo story telling voice)

This song made me an Arlo Guthrie fan. In 1969 they were shooting the Alice's Restaurant movie, in the Berkshires. Some kids from my boarding school were extras. Some of those kids, turned me onto Arlo's music. I've been a fan ever since.

Learn to do successful things that you love. Strive hard for those once you find them if you haven’t already. My son turns 28 next week. He has 2 music degrees, an audio engineering degree and is a smokin fiddle player. Never had his mother after age 3. Now, git out and make your Dad PROUD 👍🏻

Arlo never sold out; see Wikipedia. He's demonstrated in Wisconsin for public employee union workers. In December 2005 his family joined other musicians on a train trip across the country to raise money for musicians financially devastated by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. At his home in Mass., he feeds the hungry, takes care of the sick, and supports the cause for the cure of Huntington's disease, which killed his father, Woody. He might even be a better person than a musician.

Woody was one of the best traditional American songwriters of the 20th century, and his son is one of the best singing comedians around, and this video is a good example of why. His sense of the absurd, in America and in life, is just so brilliant. In his later years, he's become more of a concert guitarist and traditionalist and less of a comedian, but his early work is on record, and that's a blessing.
