I love the thorough breakdown. While I agree with the notion that the preacher gloves are too strong relative to their other counterparts, a difference that isn't made clear due to the nature of the stat UI is that all light armors offer 0% crit resistance, whereas all medium & heavy does. While this isn't enough alone to justify the stats remaining on par with their counterparts, it is at least a vulnerability the player adds worth noting. Since none of the armors report their critical resistance values aside from some of the bonuses, you can see them by comparing the before & after on the stat page. The only set bonus I've seen that's actually worth going for is the raider set. While it may seem underwhelming at first, when combined with the natural critical resistance on the rest of the gear, it's actually quite substantial. As an experiment I actually took my brawling build in full level 4 raider gear and just went full fisticuffs in an open field on horde night and was able to go most of the night before having to retreat because I could just shrug off everything they dished out. Only when the injuries started to pile up did I have to retreat to my base, and only then did I realize I didn't even have my full set like I thought and thus I was down about 25-30% crit resistance as I was still wearing my farming boots from cycling the farm earlier that day.

Thanks and I agree on preacher - while it doesn't have the defensive abilities, it's more a concept of if you are not likely to get hit much, then it's the obvious choice. If you're playing a tanky/melee build, then yes, the raider setup will work well!

Assassin set also needs some changes, maxed out and with the skills, you become invisible right in front of zombies, you can even shot them repeatedly doing sneak attack bonuses. @CautiousPancake3 ай бұрын

@slab-dd6vj3 ай бұрын
in the playthrough, I am in right now, at the beginning I went all light armor until I had enough points to put into the armor type I wanted so I would not have a movement/noise penalty. While the preacher gloves are good when you are mixing armor sets, having a full set to get that extra set bonus can complement and make your build incredible. EX I went in full agility attribute so I took the Assassin medium armor, added some stealth perks and you can have 6.6X the damage of a bow, plus almost walk over zombies without them noticing, or do multiple sneak attacks on a radiated zombie and they barely react. You trigger a Zombie trap room? just back up out of sight a few seconds and most if not all will lose interest in you and you can just come back to finish them all with the bow. I think the developer will probably rebalance and nerf some armor effects in the future, but for now we can enjoy OP builds

I agree with your point on separating perks from clothing. I am big into dressing for style, and the nerd cap is great for its xp bonus but is super dorky in appearance. Another example is the Rogue hood. It looks pretty cool, and its perk of Increased loot stage sounds terrific! I would just use the nerd hat during blood moons and then the rogue hat while looting poi's or bags after a horde. Preacher gloves are also clear choice unless partaking in PVP, which as far as I have seen has never been a huge aspect in this game. Maybe they could give all pieces the same effects, for example outfits increasing inventory space, boots giving increased move speed or reduced stamina usage, and the rest could be mods, with set bonuses being the real benefit of an armor. That however also hinders the possibilities when it comes to dressing for style. Not sure which way to go with this system, but I am liking it so far, just a few kinks to work out of it I suppose. As an aside, I was confused to find that the Nerd outfit is heavy armor, requiring specialization in Strength to make good use of, despite benefiting an Intellect specialised build.

That'd certainly be a quick fix - and would stop swapping the gloves into a medium or heavy armor set. And it's also a potential option for all the damage boosts - if all damage boosts were the set bonus. For example if that dummy got some gloves you want for harvesting your crops, you go to it, interact with it and it exchanges your gloves with the ones it was wearing. Every content creator has shown there there is one big problem with armor. That the full set bonus isn't even worth going for. Fun pimps need to look into making the full set bonus more appealing. Maybe they need to give another bonus stat instead of one? Make it two extra stats for a full set bonus instead of one. I'd suggest maybe 3 extra stats but at that point it might be abit too much leaning towards people only doing full sets. There is some kind of middle grounds where a full set bonus feels worth it while also letting people still do none full set ups, because right now, NOBODY even considers full set bonus and I think that's a problem.
@CautiousPancake3 ай бұрын
100% agree that the full set bonuses aren't worth it. What I'm not sure on is if I prefer it that way - where they are just a little bit extra if you feel like using the full set, but it's not mandatory - this gives you the flexibility to play with whatever armor you like. Having said that - it feels like it *should* matter - although that will cause people to complain that it's "railroading" them into playing with a full set. I tried swapping it in when doing a lot of magazines, and you do get a couple of bonus ones here and there - it's got a benefit that's sometimes handy, but not game-breaking - I think the bonus on this is ok (at low levels) since I don't feel bad if I'm out of space and need to read a few magazines, as the low bonus in early game probably wasn't going to add many levels. Not sure about when I'm rocking all tier 6 though - if it will feel off then, or if I'll have so many magazines already read, that it doesn't matter.

I hate the "NERD" armor so much I want to get in the face of a developer that made it and ask "really you think any self respecting nerd would wear that?". I would want a way to cover all that stupid look up.

I doubt we get a direct nerf to the preacher gloves because they'll be useless whenever we end up dealing with bandits as an end game... although that is assuming bandits would be a mid-late game thing Some of the set bonuses and individual pieces could use some love. 3 out of the 4 heavy boots all have fall damage reduction while the Nomad ones have the best bonus by far for heavy (run speed). Als not a fan of the nerd chest bonus; on the server my friends and I play on, we just keep a g6 one in a chest for reading skill books. Every other heavy chest is better for combat since the nerd set bonus is mediocre when compared to something like the assassin set... actually almost every set bonus sucks compared to that set

I think the devs are trying to compliment the armor sets together with the volumed magazines though not very significant and it feels like these armor sets are mostly for role playing and must not be game changing, I mean we played this game before with simple armors without any bonuses. And they obviously wants us to craft multiple sets for each tasks we want to do. What I do personally is I craft the preacher set and just leave it in my horde base and only use it during horde night. And when I need to gather specific resources I use either lumberjack or miner set depending on what I need. All these bonuses are just to help in specific tasks and only the Preacher armor set really makes a difference when it comes to damage dealing and the athletic set is very good in the early game to preserve resources and travel faster on foot.
@CautiousPancake3 ай бұрын
I think you could be right. Sounds like a good way to play as well - and I should try the athletic armor and see how it feels!

@@CautiousPancake I observed that some sets are just for early game and need to be changed eventually. Another early game set is the Ranger set. The set helps with the Pipe pistol damage but more importantly the full set helps a lot in the reload speed since pipe pistol is considered as a revoler, and I have tested it personally. Since in the beginning we only have access to pipe weapons, this is gonna be a significant help, plus the additional armor since it is medium armor is a big boost and the additional health and stamina helps significantly as well, not to mention that little bartering bonus in the early game is very massive in my opinion. The key here is not to look at 1 set as your forever set in the whole game rather to recognize which are the early game sets to mid and to late game. Also some sets are only good for situations like gathering resources which you really don't necessarily have to upgrade if you lack the materials. Hope this perspective of mine will help appreciate these armor sets and learn how to utilize them properly.

I think they should add more clothing tbh, even if they dont have stats, simply for style..we don't exactly need the stats to play the game..they could literally just remodel the old clothes into new updated versions for the current character.

@CautiousPancake3 ай бұрын
Hi Joel! That's true for sure, but nearly all combat currently is vs zombies rather than animals, and I have no idea how much combat there will be vs humans when bandits come in Feb 2025, so I can't rightly review for that (unless you wanna give me a sneak peak ;) It makes sense that you don't want to change the set bonuses and tiers too much, but as the game is now, they feel out of step with the other gloves. I also understand that a nerf will likely not be popular, and maybe the better option is just leaving it until bandits come in, but it feels like dropping the damage bonus on those gloves some (for now) would make choosing preacher vs other gloves more of a meaningful choice (i.e. do I want 25% dmg on both melee and ranged, or 50% dmg on just one), and you can ramp the dmg bonus back up again with bandits, depending on how significant and frequent they are for combat.

I am a bit disappointed they're going for DLC instead of further updating the base game with new systems and new armors. It feels like so many devs have gone that direction. With the economy being the way it is I don't blame them, they have to put food on the table after all, it's just getting kind of old. Overall I like the idea of the armor changes, but the old system had nothing wrong with it, and with some polishing (notably, making BDUs not meta) could have been just as good if not better than the new system, but with the survival element of having to wear clothes you found in a random drawer.

I like it better where I don't have to worry about what kind of armors I have on. It just adds to inventory management instead of adding to game play. My lumberjack carry bonus are steroid shots which usually are easy to find in loot. The assassin bonuses are good in early game. These 2% - 5% bonuses are not even noticeable for most all of them from what I've tried out. And you can get better ones by eating candies or using consumables. Hehe sure - so what I was trying to say was that because medium and heavy armor have penalties to stamina and mobility, but those penalties are reduced by the points you put into medium armor skill (or heavy) - you don't want to use a full medium armor build, and have points in medium armor, but then use the nerd hat (heavy) as this will give you full penalties. However you can wear any light piece of armor any time, as there are no stealth/movement or stamina penalties for light armor.

I agree with your builds but the sets are too weak on their own. Not to mention they are just copy pastes of other sets. We have a lot that give the carry capacity on the chest. This should be on only 1 or 2 pieces that make sense for it like scrapper or miner. All the gloves give the damage bonuses they should be moved around to favor the weapon type. Like giving the enforcer glasses a bonus with using scoped weapons or the biker chest giving a bonus to shotguns. The foot wear is all the same other than the assassin for the stealth bonus they are either stam regen, speed, or reduced fall damage. The bonuses need moved around on light, medium, and heavy. Let the players mix and match not to mention give us back a light armor bonus tree. And the full set bonus is what should give the biggest bonus. Make us make a decision about how much and what to wear/carry. Currently the full set bonuses are not enough to justify using a dedicated full set compared to the resources put into it. I do like your comment about making the bonuses into mods. That would make sense for most of it. And as far as the elements Light should be good for Hot, Med is an okish all arounder, and the heavy is great for the cold. What I mean by this is you should never get "hot" is light armor and the inverse should apply to cold in heavy. Medium should never get the stage 2 of the temp discomfort.
