@Ezonial4 жыл бұрын
It's even worse than that, the army developed all the digital uniforms, in multiple color patterns to include the woodland and desert marpat, but because the USMC issued and used them first, the leadership at the time didn't want to use those, because they wanted each branch to be distinct, which is stupid when it comes to combat camouflage, where the goal is to blend in, not stick out. That's why all the branches had different color patterns of the digital camo, because the "big brains" at the top felt it was more important for each branch to look different... In a combat environment...

Let me shine some experience on yall. During daylight hours on asphalt, concrete and sand a formation of soldiers is more or less an obscure blob at a distance of a few hundred meters. I've seen it. During night time on asphalt, concrete, and sand, especially with moonlight, a formation of soldiers is damn near unnoticeable if you are not using night optics. The pixelated pattern is to make vehicle optics less effective at an approximate range of 500 meters. Obviously if you are next to a brick building or within a LOS of 200 meters camouflage patterns dont work without concealment. I appreciated the pattern for its purpose but the idea of "universal" is just about impossible for all patterns.

Common sense says: have one uniform that represents the branch of the military you belong to while in states and issue a change of uniform depending on the deployment location and time of mission. Military: we need to pull more money from our soilders. Give them $100 take back $99.99. Soliders: Hereeee we go again! Same Old Shit again

When we got the ACU I was getting old, and my eyesight wasn’t so good, in BDU/DCUs my soldiers would hide from me in the field, but once we got the ACU my soldiers couldn’t hide any longer. I could pick them out easily in the field.

I am so glad that my days were done before the new patterns came out. BDU and DCU (Chocolate Chips) seemed to work just fine. Hell, even OD Green faded and blended with other things. But OD Green was really hideous so I'm glad that I didn't have those either. I do like the idea of not spit shining boots!!! MP's today have no idea what it was like back in 80's and 90's.

yeah i'm glad it got fazed out for ocp since if we are going to spend so much on our military we should make them more effective that being said though if i joined anything other than the coast guard i'd join the army or marine corpse of another western ally since i would be able to live in the new country

Pattern works really well in 3 places an urban sidewalk in autumn, in souther usa wet lime stone heavy wooded areas, and under nvg if you used the right detergents. As to the urban sidewalks watched a professor blast through a group of people doing a university visit. No one was hurt everyone was amazed the camo patter worked. They took pictures to show how 24 people disappeared nearly getting hit a few more times.

@enginepy4 жыл бұрын
Nawwaf Husein you’re right. He’s half right, the term ACU was invented in 2004 when they came out with that gray digital pattern. After that, they used the ACU term with a modifier to specify the newer variant (i.e. ACO OCP). But BDUs and DCUs were not ACU bc the term didn’t exist.

Someone else already mentioned the difference in who came up with Army digital uniforms. It was most likely a government kickback of money to make it happen. And then the Army decided to go to multicam. Which actually works better. Go figure. Still love the tan boots.

How do you explain acu? Easy: Lt. General Asshat: "we need a new camo uniform" Staff: "how about crye precisions multicam? It good across a range of environments" Lt. General Asshat: "is it digital?" Staff: "Um, no?" Lt. General Asshat: "then find something else. Digital is the new thing. Even the jarheads have digital camis." Staff: "Uh, why don't we just use theirs then?" Lt. General Asshat: "NO! It's gotta be special and different and unique! It doesn't matter if it actually works as camouflage in the field!" Staff: "Um, sure..." And that's where acu came from.
