I went to see this at a movie theater in February 1993, right when it came out, based solely on the trailer, which did not mention it was a sequel to the Evil Dead movies, which I had heard of, but had not yet seen. I was 20 years old at the time, so I remember my friends as a kid talking about how much they loved Evil Dead 1 and 2, but I hadn't gotten around to seeing them yet. Anyway, I loved Army of Darkness and was completely oblivious to it being Part 3 of a trilogy for years. I finally got around to watching the first two Evil Dead movies about 15 years later and then rewatched Army of Darkness in context and it obviously made the experience even better. Also, as a side note, on the strength of Bruce Campbell's performance in Army of Darkness, I immediately jumped in on The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. when it came on later in 1993. Loved that show, too.

In the 90s, it took me years to find out what this movie's title was. Especially as a fan of MS-DOS FPS shooters, PC developers always love to insert quotable one-liners and references of these films especially in the case of Army of Darkness. Absolutely hilarious. “You sir, are not one of my vassals, who are you?” - King Henry “Who wants to know?” - Ash Williams “I am Henry the red, duke of Shael, lord of the northlands and leader of its peoples!” - King Henry “Well Hello Mr Fancy Pants. I am a huge fan of the first two movies (the second one is a near perfect film), the two newer ones, and the TV show which has one of the greatest endings ever but I never could get into Army of Darkness. It sticks out from the rest to me as an attempt to appeal to a more general movie going audience which is fine but it just feels so different from the rest of the films that I don't really consider it part of the franchise, it feels more like the made for TV kids' cartoon version of Evil Dead.

@ChrisStuckmann you need to talk about the groovy sequel Evil Dead 2 next year on the Halloween Special if you haven’t already planned on doing so man, as I feel like the entire trilogy is fantastic. I have only seen Evil Dead 2 in it’s entirety alongside most of The Evil Dead on tubi earlier today but then I never got to see the end just due to personal responsibilities but, I enjoyed what I saw and thought it was genuinely one of the scariest “cabin in the woods” horror films I’ve ever seen. The crazy thing is, the deadites don’t even show up in the original from my estimation until 45 to 50 minutes into the film and a lot of the stuff preceding their arrival is just creepy ass music and random “Join Us” shouts in between the audio mix and I must say, it works as the “Join Us” shouts made me so damn uneasy that when the Deadites finally did strike inside of the cabin it made it much more terrifying, and I think the Deadites in the 1981 film are the most terrifying interpretations of them to date, something about the 1981 practical effects on them just makes them much more terrifying than even the 2013 remake as well as evil dead rise which I enjoy both but, nothing really beats the amateurish terror of the original for me when it comes to horror in the franchise at least.
