It's amazing how many folks don't understand why the quad player is grooving the way he is. That's how showband drummers groove to their cadences, They don't just stand stiff like corps drummers.

Army due to the fact that the tenors for the navy were out of sync the entire first half of the battle. As for the Army tenor, he is the best drumming tenor in this battle. Plus drumline is supposed to be fun and rhythmic not stuck up and stiff.

Hey Army drum line, you dont keep time with your feet and your timing is all over the place, notice the navy does and they are right on. Keeping time with feet is the most basic part of playing marching music! so MARCH! My old instructers would have eaten you alive!

I vote Navy, mostly because they have a similar version to one of my school's cadences (funny how they go around, isn't it?), but also because of the tenor that broke the tone of the line as he was taken away by his own energy.

I love the Navy's tom section solo in the first song, and if I was going to be a judge i'd have trouble deciding who won. Both of the drumlins were very well syncopated, and they have difficult and interesting songs each. And you'd think being a percussionist would help you decide.

To be a bit more accurate... Navy had the technique, the precision. They were sharp, clean. Army had the groove down though, no doubt. I'm not just talking about the guy near the camera, I'm talking about the whole line. The way they play and the rhythm that they create just makes you want to dance more. Like I said though, evenly matched in a lot of areas. This one's tough to call.

That's really cool you want to learn. There are several things you can use to learn. One thing you'll need is a pair of marching snare drum sticks. Vic Firth sells them as corpsmaster sticks. The next step is to learn basic rudiments. Google "basic rudiments" and click on the Vic Firth. That might help you. Practice until you're able to play all of them at any speed. Rudiments are really great builders, and a lot of marching music is basically rudiments, so get those down and you should be set.
