I just saw it come from Brissy via Goondiwindi. Imagine having to drive that thing up the Toowoomba range?? Scary as hell. I guess it's better than driving it down the range though, isn't it? Lol.

I bet Tax payers paid for this! Why on earth wouldn't she build the pieces wherever she lives, then move to Canberra for a while and put it together in Canberra rather than transport it whole? To me it makes so much more sense to do it that way. It would've been so much easier, safer and likely a heap cheaper to transport it in pieces. Unless it worked out more expensive to pay for the artists accommodation etc for the duration of time it would take to put it all together, than the transportation costs?! Who knows why they did it this way, but without all the answers it just doesn't make sense.

The equipment needed to model, create and weld this was probably located in the studio/ foundry where she created it. One of my family created and built the large bronze whales exhibited at Kurnell Botany Bay. They had to be trucked in. I doubt there would have anywhere this work of art could have been welded in Canberra. The large team employed to assist with the construction would have needed to be housed and fed, and may also have had other jobs as well as this one. I am happy to have this work of art in Canberra. This will be a major attraction for visitors to Canberra. I think it is beautiful. Taxpayer funds are spent on the Olympics and other sports. It is nice to see something spent on the arts. The logistics of getting this to Canberra were most interesting. I have walked past the site while it was being installed and can’t wait to see it without the fencing surrounding it. The current director of the NGA is a visionary and I am grateful he pursued this project.
