lee white I think the only Warncliffe I have of yours is on the double bolstered penknife. The Stockman is more of a sheepsfoot or coping blade.

Thanks, your videos are good learning material, possibly what you take as obvious is new information for me. I like the shape of it opened and everything of this knife is so restrained and without fuss. I like this Ettrick in stag, good job Arthur Wright.

That is a very beautiful knife, pattern and handle material. I own the A. Wright Ettrick in rosewood my self (along with an A. Wright Barlow and Lambsfoot). A charming and useful little knife. Regarding your comment about the asymmetric thickness of the stag handle scales: the Heinnie Haynes website carries the A. Wright Lambsfoot Stag in a left and right handed version - the difference being which side of the stag handles is the more substantial. So I guess the asymmetry is done on purpose (for ergonomic reasons?) and not accidental. Thank you for sharing yet another interesting upload - I especially enjoy the ones about the traditional old English patterns out of Sheffield.

As someone who has gutted small game, the Wharnciffe blade is indeed ideal. The sharp point makes the incision easy, and with the edge held facing up (towards the user) the blade can easily avoid nicking the intestines etc.

Interesting pattern Slick, I think I like the A. Wright version better than the M. May, only because of the blade shape. I've found the curved blade a wee bit more difficult to sharpen. All in all, I could see adding either to my collection. Still in love with A.Wright Stag!😊👍

May also makes a straight cutting edge Wharncliffe-bladed Ettrick, I have one. And yes, it is very easy to sharpen.

@@slick_slicers I had mine just over a week, opening it and closing it many times a day. It's now gone back, as I like my thumbnails too much. It's a shame, as it would have been the perfect everyday knife for me. Being handmade, I'm sure they must vary, so maybe I just got unlucky.

Lovely looking knife, the Ettrick is a great little whittler with the short Wharncliffe and the 4" grip. Between the lambs foot and Ettrick you couldn't get a more traditional British country knife in my opinion.

chris osh it does almost look like a folding version of a wood carving knife. It’s not it’s origin, but it could have been.

One of the nicest Ettrick makers was the old cutlery firm of Lock wood Bros of Sheffield, I found one in Coldstream, borders town in England, its a beautiful made knife far superior to the Wright version I use it every day on my farm its what it was made for, work.
