I really like the spinework pattern actually, though it could stand to line up more with the blade's pattern.

Hello. I enjoy seeing anything in stag. I only have one A Wright. A "real lambs foot" (that is etched lightly on the blade) sway back handle in buffalo horn and luckily it is a very nice piece of horn. 1 big problem for the look, it has a squiggly carbon inclusion on the face side of the blade. Small but very visible. The tang stamp is ok and the blade is (now) very sharp. That spring though has broken many a fingernail. It was a gift way back befor i knew anything about knives and i really enjoy carrying and using it. All the best.

... I have filed down the pins on my own standard Stag example so they are flush, smooth and polished. Pile side is thick Stag and the show side is thinner.... its a good example for a £45 knife.

I have Taylor's eye witness hardwood barlow which I use at least six times a day,I have a lifestyle block which necessitates the use of knives.The eye witness half stop is a wonderful work knife,not stiff at all.Taylor two blade barlow on way Arthur Wright springs just too stiff.

You managed to get a decent one. Always a bit of a lottery with A.Wright knives. I have four two cheap one’s ( under £20) and two more costly. One has a blade off centre by quite a way, and is very stiff to open. The last one a Senator knife like your one only in Stag bone which i am quite pleased with. Enjoyed your take on them, good video Eric.

Steven Shipley I’ve another Senator due to arrive today. I’m kind of determined to show they can do it. Then I’ll try and put some pressure on them to improve. In the meantime, I’ve a spearpoint/pen coming up in the next half a dozen or so videos.

Slick Slicers They can manage to make a good knife occasionally. I expect some of their workforce are not as good as others, like Lee White at TEW. Good luck with the Senator , my one is the best of the bunch by far. Look forward to seeing that and the spearpoint.

No! You like Sheffield knives?😂🤣😂 I'm glad you didn't give up on A.Wright knives Slick. As you say "it's a mixed bag", but you could say that about alot of "2nd Tier" knife-makers. Here in America, I would consider the now defunct Queen Cutlery Co. and W.R. Case & Sons, 2nd Tier knifemakers. It's always a "fingers crossed" situation when unpacking that beloved package that you bring in from the mailbox on delivery day. But, as you know, when things go right - you feel like you've hit the jackpot, 👏😊 unfortunately sometimes that jackpot is just a box of lemons😣 Oh! & By the way - Thanks for not keeping the A.Wright Stag Barlow you ended up gifting to me! Jackpot!!!!🎰🎯✌️😁

Unfortunately there is a big macho problem in the knife world. Everyone seems to want a knife with a “man’s pull” on it. This is definitely true in the KZbin universe. What they all forget is that most people people just want to use their knife, to have a life or death struggle just to open the damned thing. Many knife reviewers haven’t a clue what they’re talking about!

I have a simmiler one(Arthur Wright sheeps foot) in blue jig bone, £20 from HH, not the best made, but it's fine for the price, tho I've seen the same one on other sites for £40! My Arthur Wright Etric has stag handle scales and they are very uneven. I thought about getting the 2 bolster knife in snake wood but they are over £80, the quality is not there to justify that much money. I'm a big fan of Arthur Wright knives, mostly good for the money but they always come dull.

That filework seems redolent of old Norse runic inscriptions (would make sense as Viking bloodstock and culture is a major part of the Yorkshire mix) and I think it looks really good with the stag - then they have to spoil it by throwing on a blade with a completely different pattern! All they had to do was a few irregularly spaced notches, or even leave it plain. But that's A Wright for you - I don''t doubt a good one comes along occasionally, probably more by accident than design, but far too much of their output demonstrates their couldn't-be-bothered, couldn't-care-lass ethos. I had a snakewood Senator in hand recently and the notion that somebody (anybody?) in the factory reckoned it was okay to release it for sale....you have to laugh otherwise you'd cry.

David S if all their knives were crap, you could just right them off, but some are really nicely done. I got a really nice Senator in horn last week and it’s pretty near perfect. That’s what’s so frustrating about them. All they need is some decent QC. Their output would improve and sales increase no end!

@@slick_slicers Ah, I should have said, it's another TEW I've pushed the button on (the slim version of your ironwood beauty!). Nothing would induce me to mail-order an A Wright knife, it's strictly hands-on-before-you-buy with those. I have two A Wright knives, both personally chosen as the 'least worst' of a stock of dozens. They are nice but have developed substantial blade wobble (Sheffield Shimmy, I call it) - do you know of any way I can rectify this?
@slick_slicers

David S you’ll be interested in tomorrow’s video! Where did you order from? I get mine from the Bakewell Cookshop as David is great for sending pictures and honest opinions , warts and all. I have bought A Wright, J Rodgers and G Wostenholm from HH, but I’ve sent as many back as I’ve kept. The latest Senator I got last week is pretty close to perfect. They can be tightened by peening the pivot pin and then re-polishing the bolster. Personally, I think you should send them to AW under warranty, if only to help them see the error of their ways!
