With all respect....I love how in the video of Carter talking about his stick he says he barely has to lift the butt end of the stick off the rim of the snare drum to get the loud pop...BUT in this video you can clearly see him lift it like 9 inches above.

Carter does it for looks and taste. He plays loud, soft, loud, soft...he varies. You can't drum that good or loud, especially at a huge venue just lifting the butt end of the stick up.

I dabble in playing a little open-handed every now and again but it's always great watching pros who revert to open-handed as their standard playing style. Everything looks a lot more comfortable to play but because i've been playing cross-handed for so long it's difficult to get the same sensitivity in my right hand for ghost-notes as I have in my left hand. But I shall persevere!

Swap the kit around to left hand set up and either learn to play kick with LF, or get a double kick and still use the RF to play kick. This way you LH stays on the snare.
