Segmented Woodturning, a woodcraft display by Bruce Meldrum from 1995. This video shows some of my late grandfather's work that I wish to share for all to see.
The art of turning wood into unique objects of beauty.
The stunning pieces you will see in this video are proof of what can be achieved with wood, glue, lacquer and great skills using intricate calculations, meticulous assembly methods, wood-turning skills and an artistic flair. Woodcraft is a very rewarding hobby that offers a challenge to every passionate woodworker including the late Bruce Meldrum whose unique pieces are seen here.
Bruce agreed to exhibit all his creations and also have them filmed by Joe Testa on the 11th April 1995 at Southern Cross University in Lismore, NSW, in Australia. Sadly, Bruce passed away on the 11th April 2016 exactly twenty-one years later.
This video now serves as a lasting tribute to the memory of this remarkable man with the passion and skills to create such beautiful artistic pieces.

My word, I've seen some things in my long life but this takes the biscuit. Craftsman doesn't cover it. Just a pity there's no videos, still, they were made 30 odd years ago. Thank you for showing us these treasures and inspiring a whole generation of bumbling amateurs like myself.

Outstanding work. I'm doing segmented work now but not at this level. I would love to know what the angels are for some of this kind of work? Again this is some of the most beautiful work i have ever seen. If you like you look at my site to see what i have done?

Hi Chris, sure, I'll check out your work. I want to try this one day but all I'm going off at this stage are the shots in this clip.

Amazing. these are some of the best segmented / turned crafts in the world. the precision required in some models is jaw dropping but 90s means no CNC right ?

Thanks Ahmed, that's right no CNC here for this stuff. Everything sized by hand.
