Great video using and working with a glass grinder...! I have my grinder setup in my laundry tub. Whenever I grind glass, I have a small hose that I connect to the laundry tub water faucet that provides water directly to the grinding stone and the glass that is being grinded so there is absolutely no dust whatsoever... The water keep the grinder bit clean and removes any and all glass dust into the grinder filter I have connected.
@ARTyRV Жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea. Glass dust is the worst kind.

Same here...I bought it because it was one of the least expensive grinders I came across. I figured for just part time stained glass artwork as a hobby I didn't need a larger, more expensive grinder.

looking into this as a new hobby. I am from Belton, SC same state thank goodness .. Thank you for helping me learn something NEW... My Mom/best Friend left me 5-9-19 during a routine heart value replacement and in 6 years retiring from sheriff dept. My husband is my biggest (6'7") fan and encourages me to learn do other interest. He welds and does anything set in his mind. I paint and do landscaping for relaxing therapy so making the world beautiful is my gift. Thank you for helping me add something NEW to my life . Old timers tip- most valuable. I may have had to drill out one of those old set screws...now I NEVER leave it on the machine. I always take it off so it won't rust in place. How long would you say one of the diamond bits should last?
@ARTyRV2 жыл бұрын
That will depend on how often you use it. Thank you so much for watching! Join us Monday at 7Pm Est for the livestream Q&A. We chat about glass, answer questions, share info and there’s a glass demo.

Ed’s Dad had all kinds of great tips. Before he did stained glass he was a jet-engine mechanic in the Airforce. When he retired he used his many talents and learned stained Glass. We worked with him for 15 years before he passed. Miss him, but proud to pay it forward and share his knowledge.

I have COPD would you recommend that I use a face mask wile I work with my grinder?
@ARTyRV2 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely and make sure your grinder has water in it to keep the dust down. You also should wear a mask while cleaning, sweeping and dusting the studio.

Hi Ed, I've heard over and over that you should grease up the grinder so it doesn't freeze. What kind of grease should we use? Thanks so much! 😊 Opps! I asked too soon. I got the answer 😊 Thanks again!

I haven’t used zinc in any of our videos. Not sure, maybe someone else? But when I use zinc, I just use a hack saw and a wood miter box. Thank you so much for watching!

I have a window two feet by 44 in woman wants me to put a frame because the window has no support but it actually is made with that very thin lead that they use in the some catchers I didn't believe it myself the windows old and very unstable I agreed to put a frame because it cannot hold a bar of support I thought that would help her out but she wants a lot more than she can actually afford I feel bad I like to help her but it is not an easy fix I don't know what to do maybe you can give me some advice I love your show I've been there since the very beginning out on the outskirts but I do watch you every Monday thank you

Good to hear from you Pauline! Lay flat putty and clean. Let it lay flat for a few days then put it in a frame. That is most economical solution. Thank you so much for watching! See you on Monday.

glass is made from silica sand and could cause silicosis in lungs but probably not in the hobby. more for people who work in glass recycle. but stillgood to wear basic mask over mouth and nose when grinding. people have worked decades with much more toxic and dangerous materials creating art but that does not mean it is OK to throw all precaution away.
@ARTyRV2 жыл бұрын
Most importantly, keep the grinder head wet as to not disperse glass dust into the air and throughout the studio. Masks are recommended when grinding as well!
@markwitte3032 жыл бұрын
grinders are your biggest investment outside of glass. grinders are just plastic an electric motor and the important part the grind bit. Someone could make a millions if they sold a grinder without a grinder bit and the customer can buy any grinder bit. seriously grinders are a ripoff and a craft person could build one for less than $100.00.
