And the worst part is the more cars like this (unrepairable tech-ridden cars, especially EVs) that go on the road, the more the average car insurance goes up FOR EVERYONE. The reason it keeps creeping up is because more and more cars are becoming too expensive to repair… So cars like this add to the problem. My car insurance has gone up 25% in the last 2 years… I haven’t changed a single thing about my cars or my life in the last 2 years. So that’s everyone else’s changes pulling up the average, so I have to pay more in case i get in an accident with them. So ridiculous.
@jrmotorsports553222 күн бұрын
@@proper_miles yep, I write estimates for an insurance company. Avg costs to repair have easily doubled. Those cool LED lights, over $5k each for some (most in the $2k range). Those distance sensors for braking, over $1k for the sensor. It all adds up very fast.
@proper_miles22 күн бұрын
@@jrmotorsports5532 Yeah, and while it’s lightly covered in the news, I don’t think the car community is loud enough about it. Many of us are driving the same old cars, affordable cars, easily repairable cars, etc. Yet our premiums are increasing because of people buying these dumb, over complicated microwaves. People need to boycott cars that aren’t repairable or affordably repairable. That will bring premiums back down. My 2006 Ferrari is cheaper to insure than my 2020 Mini Cooper. I get that maybe statistically there are fewer Ferraris in crashes than Mini just because of the rarity of them on the road. But still… I was quoted more for a brake job on that Mini than on the Ferrari. So obviously the repair ability is getting worse.

Hoovie, you're paying for the "foundation series" which is essentially the Tesla equivalent of a 30% dealer markup. Unlike normal automakers who sell cars through dealerships, who then mark up something like say a Ford Raptor or whatever popular vehicle, Tesla just adds a couple optional upgrades, a special badge and a huge profit margin padder price themselves. The exact same thing happened with the Model S and Model X Plaid - people paid over $140K for some of them at launch. A few years ago I remember Scotty Kilmer telling the viewers about someone with a brand new Jeep . The Jeep has that auto braking system on it as well. Anyway the owner was driving this brand new Jeep into an under pass and the auto braking mistook the dark shadow of the underpass as danger and so it slammed on the brakes. The car behind the Jeep rammed the Jeep and both cars were wrecked . Scotty asked who would be at fault in that situation. A very good question . Never did find out the answer .
@russelljacob795522 күн бұрын
Well, car following is at fault because the reason for braking is hindsight. But laws with driving always has vehicle operator at fault it the fail to intervene as operator must always be ready to take control. In the event the vehicle causes the accident while operator is attempting to control and car is trying to override input, then the manufacturer is at fault. I cite often a near miss with my 2021Camry and lane departure. I was going through a construction zone at posted speed limits. They had a narrowing and squeeze right with concrete barricades up to and into the left lane. I squeeze right like supposed to. Car thought 'lane departure' and tried turning me back. Had I not been paying attention and fast on reaction? Auto system would have sideswiped my brand new car into concrete barricades. I would have gone after Toyota if that had happened, but insurers would have probably found me at fault before then.

They are not remotely in the ballpark for that. I am uninterested in any electric vehicle used for towing with less than 500 mile range. The 70k version they showed us originally was with a 200kwh battery. When they put in a ~130kwh battery, it is a truck I don't want. That is not a "I don't like your design" issue, it is an available specification issue. My order is not cancelled because I am waiting to see if they make the 200kwh variant, or at least one with enough range to tow a non-aerodynamic trailer at least 200 miles without charging.

The problem I see and the reason I wont buy an ev is the fact an ev can't replace a fueled car at all tasks required. If marketing would stop lying and market the cars as mainly commuter/ around town car, and not a full replacement for gas cars, I think they would sell more cars to people like me, which is the demographic they need to sell to now to survive. The millennial market is saturated now. Will it get me to work and back and save me money. How long will the car last. How long will the battery last? How expensive is the battery? When you sell to the middle class and not millionaires, you have to answer these questions. You can't force people to buy your product.
@peglor18 күн бұрын
It does seem that the reason electric cars have sold well till now is because almost everyone buying them has a backup 2nd or 3rd car to use when the electric car isn't suitable, but that market is now saturated. Most people on normal incomes in most of the world don't have the parking space for multiple cars, or in many cases don't have guaranteed space for one car at their house, relying on on-street or other shared parking, so even if electric cars were free, they still wouldn't be a better choice for people in that category. Also where I live, and I suspect in quite a few other countries too, insurance companies price a second policy for one person owning a second car as if the person had never driven before and was looking for their first insurance policy, even though they have literal decades of records of safe driving for the customer involved. This is more insane given I can only drive one of them at a time, so the big accident payouts they're so afraid of are actually less per vehicle. The result of this though is that any money saved on electricity over fuel (Which, if you're using fast chargers, aren't even cheaper per mile compared to IC vehicles anymore) will be completely eaten up by the price of the electric vehicle combined with the massive price of a second insurance policy.

What we need is reliable easily serviceable affordable cars. I know people say they want a 30-40K suv, but I'd wager there are plenty of use that would pick a 20k car that wasn't a piece of junk at this point.

This video hit at the gist of the issue for Tesla. The company diverted development resources for four years into the Cybertruck project which appears to have been an ego burnishing exercise for Elon Musk. Now Tesla finds itself with aging core business products and is stuck Cybertruck which is amazing, but has fairly limited market opportunity. The Model 3 Highland update transformed the Model 3 to a best in class near luxury car, hopefully that is enough to carry Tesla. It is too bad Tesla wasn’t putting more attention into the broader global market for less featured but more affordable cars. China, Inc. is set to own the entry level EV market where trade protection does not keep it out.

What do you mean $20k, it's upto at least $30k loss already because as soon as people realise there's an over supply of them, the price will have to drop to stimulate sales (just like all the other models) and that will crash the 2nd hand price. It's happening worldwide from all the reports I've seen.

No matter how much money you have, you cannot buy back lost time. It is unacceptable for anyone in any profession to steal your time, I learned this at a young age from an old man and have managed my time accordingly. Don’t wait to be 80 and regret letting others steal from you, do business only with people who respect you enough to not steal from you.

The clothes dryer is not rated for continuous current draw. You need the proper 6 gauge copper wiring with 50A double breaker on the service panel and then NEMA 14-50 plug. Then you can draw 30 Amps

The first adopters always pay a premuim for a new product. We are still seeing the Founders Edition Cybertrucks. Most people with pre-orders are not canceling their order, just passing on the very expensive first release. The price will definitely come down in the near future and the Founder logo will be gone.

That's something that is not talked much with EVs too. Street parking is not really feasible unless you want to have a 240v wire running out into the street.

For some people it is fine. They have some other option to charge. A few work places now have chargers. Some stores have them and you can get a charge while you have lunch. People need to check their personal situation. Sadly, oil companies are buying up charging networks. This is a bad omen.
@SmallwoodMedia21 күн бұрын
I suspect that changes to the charging station team is designed to stick it to the competition on his way down. If he can't have a Tesla in every garage, he will make life more difficult for other EV owners.

The Cybertruck is not just a defect magnet, it's a stupid magnet with so many poor design decisions which can't be fixed over the air. Covering that all up with gimmicks will get old very quickly.

@@chassegallerie2910 Not the same thing. The Japanese and Chinese way of thinking is completely different. The former is about excellence and doing it right, the latter about cutting corners at every chance. The Japanese were able to take over because of their superior products, it won't be the case with Chinese cars

If China takes over and outs everyone else out of business that’s a wrap for the entire industry. There will be no more innovation because the Chinese don’t know what that is. They steal everyone else’s IP and since everything is government owned/controlled they have an unfair advantage. And that’s putting it mildly.

Elon declared that the best part is NO part. Yet Teslas are a Rube Goldberg design where the simpeist task is performed by ridiculously complex means. Frunk, doors, latches, steering, windows, you name it. Redesigning the tried and true for the sake of technology that makes everything prone to failure, expense and unsafe outcomes. No wonder resale values tank. Who wants the expensive repairs of aging Rube Goldberg parts and systems other than the nerds, techies and the "look at me" crowd? What happened to Save the Planet? It never existed with any EV. Remember, the Tax Payer along with soon to be fleeced investors payed for this fun and games. Warm up your monitor fireplace, choose the sound your horn will make, grab a Bud Light, sit back and watch it all slow burn to the ground. (or rapid burn if the batteries spontaniously ignite)
