Here after Shane Warne's untimely death. Watching this video of him in better time. He was an immensely good cricketer and an all-round lover of the sport. Clearly a classy bloke also, shaking KP's hand and congratulating him in his century. What a player and what a man. RIP Shane. The game of cricket will never, ever forget you. ♥️😭

Warney was the best and most dangerous bowler I’ve ever seen. He was also very good mates with KP from their time together at Hampshire so of course he shook his hand and of course he loved to get him out. Two top professionals who just loved the contest. And that’s what test cricket is, a contest that tests you against the best of the best of any given era. When outclassed as England were for 18 years it can seem completely merciless as it should be. Love the game to be honest, it shapes characters and champions and for me in my lifetime Shane Warne was the epitome of that

I was at there that day.. don't remember much except Warne dropping Pietersen and then Pietersen dropping bombs into the crowd. I was so pissed that the rest is a blur. After the first test McGrath said they would win it 5 - 0 so when he came to field at the boundary we were having some good banter with him.. he took it pretty well.. hundreds of people chanting at him. It was special because prior to this, this Australian side had been the dominant force in cricket and this was the end of arguably their greatest ever side, maybe even the greatest side of all time. When you look at the players they had it's scary. England needed a bit of luck, but the bowling attack were fantastic that series and McGrath's freak injury helped turn the tide. What a series!

They just caught Australia who didn’t bother to prepare properly after their conquering of the final frontier when they finally won in India in 2004. With Gillespie randomly losing the plot they realised they didn’t have quality in back up bowling, Brett Lee suddenly had to step up from short spell enforcer to frontline pace bowler, Hayden and Martyn had no idea once the ball started swinging and Gilchrist was kept down by Flintoff. Suddenly you had a not so great side only held up by Warne, Ponting and Glenn McGrath when he wasn’t injured.

This series revived interest in International cricket - not that I'd ever lost the flame! But, apparently, interest was at an all-time low. After this series, the 2013-14 Ashes tour by England was one of the most anticipated in decades. The "Amazing Adelaide" test had so many echoes of this England series; it was a thrill a minute ride for us Aussies but also so good to see an England team that could fight..... and play! The fact is, there's only one series that has any real interest or significance and that is Australia vs England. The affection Freddie Flintoff is held in, in Australia, shows how deep-seated the love of an Ashes scrap is.The rest....well, I despise the Indian Cricket Board and what it has done to world cricket - and Pakistan? They can't even host games in their own country and when they do play, you wonder which bookmaker got to them first. Here's hoping the Sth Africans put up a fight next month.
