7:38 not a weird take at all. I only "dabble" in PvP on occasion, mostly preferring to stick to PvE, but I'm quite willing to go full "PvX" in AoC because of Steven Sharrif's "hold my beer" approach. You know, the whole "if you can make a better MMORPG then why don't you?" nonsense... because we can't afford to do that... until Steven came along. Now one of us can, and he's doing it. I'll adapt to the minor issues I might not like because the majors will most probably not be any kind of issue.

The point about MMORPGs being a "large open world where players come together and interact despite focusing on different aspects of the game" is what Ashes looks like it trying to bring back. PvP, PvE, Economy etc are all interconnected in Ashes. THAT is what I'm most excited about. Its the unseen social "glue" that's been missing from MMOs. We've all seen cool boss fights, fun pvp, combat, crafting etc. But it's having a *world* where it all coexists and interacts with that we haven't see in ages.

@AshesOfCreationOddity indeed. WAY more moving parts. Much easier to just turn every aspect of a game into separate "lobbies". But I think the tech and design methods have arrived to allow more interesting worlds to finally bridge the gap between sandbox and themepark. Or at least, that's what it looks like Ashes is starting to pull off.

AoC charges you $120 for access to the start of alpha 2. Imagine developers wants you to try the game for possible feedbacks but charges you over 100usd for a game test

I been hoping for years for a nwn bg open world mmo dnd style to 3 or 3.5 edition I jsut remember how much fun I had on neverwinter nights campaign and multiplayer modules seeing other ppls worlds and creative designs and questing it was so fun.. then for mmos classic wow was the best kinda jsut fell off after burning crusades and eso is so fucking predatory it’s hard to enjoy it.. been waiting my whole life for this moment ashes of creation I hope brings us back to that adventure

PvP is fine for MMO, but you need to provide sufficient 'protection' for PvE players. Some MMOs don't provide such 'protection' and ended up PvPer griefing PvEer player and destroying the PvE experience and drive PvE players away. I don't want to name these MMO as most of them has already shutdown due to lack of players and deservingly so. Hope AoC learn from such stupid mistakes in the past.

PvP is good for an mmo. Not structured instanced PvP, but when it exists as an additional layer of player interaction. But in games where PvP isn't enabled, you often end up with more griefers in PvE who you are at the mercy of where as in games where PvP exists, you're free to take matters into your own hands... i.e: stealing mobs and karma bombing in bdo. Just play that game on a seasonal server and you'll see people don't respect others grind spots because nobody can do anything about it. This is why dungeons are instanced in most mmos and very little progression happens in the open world outside of quests in most games

@@Vujkan It depends on the effectiveness of the punishment system. The best is still to segregate PvP from PvE crowd. Look at Black Desert Online, they have karma punishment system which is imho pretty effective and pose quite a deterrent but still it does not stop those toxic players from pushing the boundary. This ended up destroying the entire PvE experience. They then go implement 'private server' zone where PvE players can farm solo without the disturbance of other players but the simplest solution is to still to entirely disable PvP in a PvE server. This is the best solution. Look at Archeage, it also has punishment system and a bounty hunter system (if I am not wrong AoC is a result of learning from Archeage, the product of a lot of grievance from the PvE players that the founder decided to create AoC to replace Archeage). But it does not prevent the total destruction of PvE play experience by those toxic PvPer. And deservedly, Archeage shut down for good given the lack of players. They catered to the PvP players and screwed the PvE players and ended up their beloved PvP player also abandoning them. PvP crowd is a bunch of toxic ppl (though not all) but if you are looking for toxic players, they are definitely inside PvP crowd. It is never wise for a game to cater to toxic players.

@@kwoowoo828 bdo system is not even close man,here you will lost xp, rare items,everyone can chase you and kill you,trade will be disable for you,cant buy anything from npc + lvling in ashes of creation is hard they take more than 1 month + if you play 6 hours every day! So tell me now its that worth it risk :D?!They use Lineage 2 System which is the best system ever maded!And y people need to accept game is PvX not a clear PvE so Steven already said game is not for everyone!

Ashes is trying to move the genre forward. No other mmo has even tried to do what their trying to achieve. A world forged by the players. It's a great premise and one that i think will be very successful despite the always on pvp. Let's face it WOW is a complete mess. FF is an animae clone, Pax Dei is a survival game masquerading as a mmo, ESO is stuck in early two thousands tech wise and graphics wise, T&L is a money grab, GW2 is fun but very limiting, BDO is a street fighter coupled with a fashion show, NW is breathing its last breath and trying to get as much money from the console gamers it can before the jank is up with its lack of content. If they, Intrepid can pull off what they're aiming for they will pull many from all of the games mentioned above and this will be their new home.

@chaoticneutral783 don't know what game you are playing but pax has all kinds of combat including bears, wolves, magic users and a sort of undead in castles. It's an early release game with content being added every week. It also has armored knights with necros and other to fight. I never said ashes wasn't a good game, only that pax is out and you can also build incredible castles as well. You might want to go back and look at Pax again, at least until ashes comes out That's what I'm doing and then decide.

Guys lets be real.Ashes will flop after 1-2-3 months. Its destined to fail due to its pvp focus.And dont get me wrong i love what i see so far from ashes but its proven times and times again that people stay in mmos for the pve and how much casual friendly content there is.I hope the niche audience that will remain can keep it afloat.

Its a hybrid combat of action and tab. Without tab target you get pve combat like New World that is trivial and terrible you can just dodge every attack. If you dont want tab target play and action rpg
