how do you feel about those flexible rubber corner protectors for the shel rosh vs. the cover you showed?

Those are for the Shel Yad. And I think they are pretty good however, they only protect the top section so the bottom section can still get scuffed...

First step - have tefillin of such quality that it would have any realistic chance of lasting decades

The idea of my tefillin getting lost or stolen…. That will always be a source of high anxiety for me.

Rabbi I remember you saying that Vaseline could be put on the bottom of the batim, and then wiped off, but I can't find the video anywhere. Do you know which video it was?

So I have heard that that can help make a barrier to keep out sweat from the batim. But I have personally never done it. It may be possible you heard it from another Sofer? I'm not sure if I mentioned it in any of my videos...

thanks a million for your wonderful videos, chazak ve'amatz le'harbos kevoidoy yisburach bu'oilom, i would like to comment on your idea to put the tefilin in an icebox in in the car, i did so for a while and i noticed it was getting very moist sometimes, and i think that moisture is more damaging to the parshes than the heat.

Yes moisture is damaging as well. That is strange as I've done it myself on many occasions and never had any moisture buildup. Make sure not to put ice packs inside. And make sure you don't put sweaty Tefillin in. It should be dry. As dry as the air is when you put in the Tefillin it should be able to hold the temperature and humidity level.

I have a habit of wrapping my Tefillin far too tight when I put them away.

Sometimes it's difficult to break habits... but it is important not to wrap to tight!

Thank you for this. There is so little quality information on Stam out there and this is immensely helpful. Bh I have a decent background in halacha, but Stam is completely closed to me. Questions for you, do you think there is any issue with the thermos tefillin cases? I bought one after we had a house fire (bh everyone was ok but my tefillin had smoke damage). Is there any problem putting the silica packet in with the batim or klaf getting dried out? Should I put leather conditioner on the retzuot? I wrap nusah sepharadi, we wrap with the loop opposite the knot and the loop gets “squished” no matter how loose I wrap it, any advice? What do you think the average life span of average, chrome-tanned, retzuot are? Thank you thank you

My pleasure, I don't think there are any issues with the thermos cases. I would be careful not to put too many packets in there I wouldn't want the Tefillin to dry out. Be careful with putting anything on the bottom of the Retzuos every product used needs to be all kosher ingredients. Today the Retzuos don't last as long. I would say it depends on the company you buy, but a decent one should last 5-10 years
