Don't worry, guys. I'm sure most metalheads would roll their eyes when they hear R&B or Hip Hop for the first time. Music communities be like that sometimes, that's why I love when people give an opportunity to different genres.
@jbm08663 жыл бұрын
I respect all music genres..like truly, and have always been like that. Well, not exactly true..had a little trouble with the gawdawful scene music a while back, and Norwegian Black metal doesnt really do much for me...but I'm even within those two genres there is a song or two I'd like..maybe lol. R&B is all about the awesome vocal performances and emotions..and in that respect its not that different than rock. Rock is a fusion of rhythm and blues, jazz, country and folk...just amped up and taken to new levels. Black musicians created the rock genre in the 50's tbh...but for some reason black artists went a different direction after Jimmy Hendrix died.

Pantera "5 Minutes Alone", "Cowboys From Hell", "I'm Broken" these are ALL METAL masterpieces! In Metal the music tells the story and the changes in the music move you certain ways. With Rap it is pretty much centered on the lyricist and the words he is spitting, however much you like the beat it does not hold the same place in the rap band as it does a Metal/Rock band where the music is sometimes more the center stage, so it comes at music from a completely different way why it is so unusual for "Hip-Hop Heads"! TY for great and honest reaction, watching you guys become METALHEADZ is a GREAT ride!

There is a clip of Phil talking about a Father wanting five minutes alone with him because his kid got beat at a Pantera (opening for someone) concert for giving the band the finger for the whole set till the beat down. I'm pretty sure that Five Min alone came out in the early 90's, I had it on a mixed tape, I wonder if that was from that incident or if the father knew he was quoting a Pantera song title. He (the father) said to the manager that "he did not care about the law suit or the charges, I just wanted five minutes alone with Phil" Phil finishes the story with the manager saying, "no you don't".

Rock can sound intimidating, but it's the same messages as all music but a different emotional angle, usually anger and frustration, it takes life experience and being letdown in life before understood on a personal level. Glad you two see it for what good it can bring. Much Respect!

Don't know if anyone has told you, but there are rules to the pit. An etiquette. In most concert pits you help each other out. Someone diving gets supported by the audience because that's what you do. Someone falls in the pit, you pick them up. You can get hurt at these things, but MOST people there are good people that don't want to see anyone hurt. That being said, there is a scene where pain and blood are on the menu at all times.

This is metal. The cradle, the beginning, at least for me. Yeah, Mosh pits weren't safe....that was the point! We Gen X folks grew up in a world that our parents tried to cover in Nerf...and we weren't having it, man. Metal is about energy, adrenaline, that safe paths spiral ever downward into stagnation. Think about Gen X....our favorite games were Pac Man and Tetris...games you actually cannot win. We watched cartoons that now can't be shown for violence, racism, sexism, and any host of other -isms. And we turned out ok anyway. And this, for me and my friends, was our music, our viewpoints. And bars are bars. It doesn't matter if the music is pop, metal, rap,or mashups like Rage Against the Machine. If you're spittin bars, then folks will listen. That was the other thing I liked about metal music. It didn't shy away from horrible topics. There was meat there. Bars to be found, though we didn't say it that way back then. Pop seemed so...fluff by comparison...no thought..no real meaning. I liked my music meaningful, even if others didn't get it.
