Linda Ronstadt was the number one female artist of the 197o's. Along the way she was instrumental in developing what is known as the California sound. She along with Jackson Browne, J.D.Souther, and the Eagles, who at onetime were her backup band, harnessed the folk, country and rock to create a new music and laid back attitude. She was also defined by the covers of other artist's material. Most notably, TUMBLING DICE by ROLLING STONES ALISON by ELVIS COSTELLO TRACKS OF MY TEARS and OO BABY, BABY by SMOKEY ROBINSON, BLUE BAYOU by ROY ORBISON, HEAT WAVE by MARTHA REEVES &the VANDELLAS, POOR, POOR, PITIFUL ME by WARREN ZEVON, and DESPERADO by EAGLES. The Eagles are known for fiercely guarding their material but respectfully gave her license to record one of their best songs. I think there is even footage of them playing them on the track. It is a crying shame that she is unable to sing anymore. But her body of work remains as to how great she is.

Most people don't realize that this is a cover of an old Roy Orbison song. Mainly because she really took it and made it hers. She had the softest, silkiest, sexiest voice I have ever heard on stage yet could belt out bangers also. Her vocal range is enough to make ANY vocalist sit back in awe of how wide it is yet she uses it SO effortlessly. It can never be understated exactly how huge she was in the mid to late 70s. No matter what words you try to describe her success, none will come close to the reality of the situation. While all the other guys were pinning up their Farrah posters, I had one of Linda. Facial closeup with an orchid in her hair. That voice and those big brown eyes had me hooked
