My wife had complications during birth with our daughter. My daughter was delivered safely but my wife was rushed off to surgery. I remember sitting there with our little girl and being so terrified that I would never see my wife again. It was the scariest moment of my life. And trust me, coming from an Afghanistan and Iraq Vet, that is saying something. But my wife and daughter are still here and I am so happy to have my family by my side.

This song came out in 1995. I was pregnant with my son when it came out and I was high risk. I was told if I gave birth I could loose my life doing it. When it came out my husband just cried and prayed he would have both of us when he was born. I am here and our son is 26 yrs.old... God is good.

End of the video you see the Mom with the family fishing.. And its also indicated by the song's lyrics that each verse there's a plea to not take the girl.. but it always moves to a future where she's there.. so assume from lyrics that she survived.. it's a wonderful song.

I used to work with a guy back in the 90's who was a huge Tim McGraw fan. He won a radio contest to meet him backstage after a show in Charlotte NC. He said he had a bunch of questions he wanted to ask. And when he met him he was so star struck all he could say was. Don't take the girl.

My first child was a daughter and this song was popular as she was cooking in the womb. The night she was born all I heard was its a little girl then they started calling codes and rushed her out the room in a bassinet saying something about ambulance to another hospital 30 miles away. I did the same thing, I ran outside and prayed harder then I ever had telling God if he needed a soul take mine, strike me down but don't hurt my little girl. Everything turned out fine but that song is especially important to me because of that night.

I suggest McGraw's "Can't be Really Gone." It is slightly mysterious so you may wish to listen more than once but it is beautiful and heartfelt and McGraw performed it with great emotion. I also suggest another great yet bittersweet song of love and devotion performed by the underrated female vocalist Kathy Mattea. It is entitled "Where have You Been." These songs are not just sad but tell a story with a moral. The moral here is that men should ideally love, honor and protect their respective wives and families. It is an honorable ideal to which boys should aspire. That is the true reasoning behind these story songs. I'm happy to see y'all listening, enjoying and learning about the music and also, you may have been unaware, learning about life too.

I loved ur react 2 this. I still get teary eyed every time I hear it. I'm sure my mother probably felt or said that when I was having my daughter. My father passed away when I was about 4-5 mths pregnant then my mom moved back up 2 MA while I stayed in Fl. Everything was fine during labor/delivery, I had complications & hemorrhaged, they tried different things but couldn't get it 2 stop so they prepped me 4 an emergency hysterectomy. Needless 2 day both my mom & my daughter's father were scared, thankfully they were able 2 stop the bleeding. I found out many yrs later that I have a blessing disorder that I have 2 take meds 4, so when I had my son my hematologist already had the order in my file this way I wouldn't run in2 same problem.

Yeah, there is always a lot of discussion on this song as to what happened at the end. The song leaves it wide open but in the video, at least to me anyway, it is clearly indicating that she survived. The Mom is shown running toward the father and son with a picnic basket. Some people try to say she is an angel but there is no logic reason an angel would be carrying a picnic basket. So at least from the videographer's perspective, she lived.
