AC, my grandmother found me cooking on the top of our cast-iron stove. She said words to the effect, "If you do not want to use a fry/saute/saucepan, then light a fire in the pigsty and live with the pigs". Fairly harsh words from a woman who had a hard life. My Uncle used to cook the rump steak and eggs for breakfast on the cast iron and would say, we don't talk about this to Mama.
