Honestly it's pathetic to show the solar water generator. The thing is a shitty dehumidifier that would produce more water if it was just a giant funnel into a bucket, and then you cleaned it. One of two things happened here. You either shilled out and took money to promote a scam, or everybody in the production process is so dumb that they all fell for the scam. I'm gonna go with the first option though. You guys should be better than this. I want the old days of TOH back where we got to see the details and pricing of what honest work looks like.

If those water generators were really common place, I have to assume it would have a significant effect on the local climate. It's like running a dehumidifier outside--with enough units, it will change the weather and also reduce the efficiency of all neighboring units by some amount. I wonder how scalable this really is.

Kinda sad that the guy just didn't shove in some backer rod or slap some caulk or packing tape over the crack as a temporary measure. Just use a candle or a match to find air gaps when the flame flickers. You can also get a simple smoke making device that will push smoke allowing you to find gaps. Another biggie is outlets. I always install the foam backing on them. They may not seem like much but considering how many are in a house it adds up to the equivilant of an open window.

It is... it's a scam... the amount of energy to de-humidify the atmosphere is outrageous. Your A/C in your house does the exact same thing, look at the condensation pouring out.
@robertbarrett72384 жыл бұрын
Yep. Not sure how they expected a small solar panel and a black box to increase water moisture. Hell, an increase in temperature actually decreases relative humidity. Just hate that they don't vet their sponsors. :-/
@casperunnerup4 жыл бұрын
@Johnny Casteel Well I do have both a mechanical- and an electrical engineering degree. But that is not even needed to figure out that this is a boneheaded solution. You only really need high school and some Google-foo. All you really need is to Google is how much water air contains dependent on temperature(Relative humidity) and the energy needed for creating the difference in temperature needed to extract the water. And if they had actually fond some magical viable solution that broke thermodynamics, so they could actually create a viable solution. Then you would see them all over the place by now. They have had tons of press covering and their green marked feel-good value is of the charts.
@ilovefunnyamv2nd4 жыл бұрын
@Johnny Casteel I don't know if we're smarter than them, but certainly their integrity is being questioned for showcasing how functional a dehumidifier is it desert climates. that unit would be several times more efficient on my roof in the woods in Michigan, than out in Arizona, thats like a 200-300% increases, or 2-3 times the amount of water per KiloWatt of power, and it would still be more energy wasted than just filtering water pumped out of the ground. It doesn't take an degree to know how a dehumidifier works. We live in the age of information, and it's old knowledge, 10 minutes of reading on your part, and you can learn the best method of on site-water reclamation. Now why don't you take me to school, do you know any more emojis?
@johntilson25354 жыл бұрын
Wow, thousands of dollars for a 'solar water system that produces *maybe* a couple of gallons a day. If that. I live in the desert southwest. Purified bottled water is less than a $1 a gallon. I guess this system would make cost effective sense on say, Mars! LoL
@jim15504 жыл бұрын
To be fair even using a distiller that is over 700 watts I can still distill 3 gallons a day for waaaay less than what they charge at the stores. Plus I can triple distill the water if I want.
@backpacker34214 жыл бұрын
So, you spend $2-3 per day for the amount of water this system produces. That's already getting up towards a thousand dollars a year. Assuming reasonable maintenance costs, the system will be cheaper than buying bottled water OVER TIME, and you won't be throwing away several plastic bottles every single day. So yeah, I guess you save money today buying bottled water, but you lose money over the years.

It's not the temperature differential that causes the condensation. Raising the temperature of air won't raise the dew point. The dew point is dependent on the amount of water in the air and is independent of temperature. Solar water is a great idea to try to make work. Unfortunately, like so many other modern "green technologies", the basic science behind this one is fatally flawed.

DR PHIL how much glue do you think is needed?? Modern wood glue is ridiculously strong. Much stronger than nailing. Much. And modern glues dry in a few minutes. Though full strength requires a few hours. I have also fitted hundreds of window and doors. I use glue. Actually these days I temp shim and use low modulus expanding foam. THAT is the way to make a crazy strong fix. People have their own ways. I prefer mine, you prefer yours. 🤷🏻♂️ Nice chat.

@DR PHIL we wear shorts when playing tennis and rugby. Apart from that, it is well known to cover ones legs as a gentleman should. Even in the hottest of climates we cannot allow our calves to be on show. The USA was a bastion of righteousness. In fact, as recently as 1959, residents in Plattsburgh, NY, older than 16 were fined or jailed for letting their calves be on show. Alas, this detestable showing of calves nowadays is a direct result of moving too far away from Her Majesty's land of hope and glory.
