Actually Emi was the one that’s right: the lingering taste is the key difference. Sucrose and sweeteners bind to the same taste receptors but sweeteners binds longer. And it’s that slight deviation from familiarity that our brain interprets as “weird” to protect us from poison.

Tectone is correct, using the "Zero" line of drinks would be a better taste test. Most of the "Diet" brands use aspartame which is meant to emulate the taste of sugar, not HFCS; the "Zero" line of drinks use Sucralose which tends to emulate HFCS. The difference between Mountain Dew and Diet Mountain Dew is pretty obvious, but if you sub Mountain Dew Zero for Diet, or Mountain Dew Throwback for Mountain Dew, you'll see a much smaller gap in the taste.

I don't think this is correct. In Europe most sodas acually use normal Sugar and not HFCS in the sodas. Even in Coca cola ect. And Aspartame still is nasty as F. Compared to the Zero versions. Even when i'm used to sugar.

Usually the problem with Tectone's mic is that he has one, putting it behind him seemed to solve the problem. Lost Asmon a couple of times though. But seriously, I agree about the podcast, I was dubious going into the first episode but it really is entertaining. Was funny as hell when Asmon seemed at home with the bug. If I have any criticism it would be sometimes they don't focus on the guest enough, but I can see how that could be hard if you're trying to give the impression of four people (or three and a TV) just chatting.

I think you can always taste the difference between real sugar drinks and non-sugar drinks if you really try, like they said there is always a different after taste. That being said, there is a huge difference between "diet" drinks and "zero sugar" drinks. Most of the diet drinks have a slightly different flavor profile.

Im with emiru on this one. Soda feels so heavy and sugary to just drink on its own. I only pair soda with greasy junk food or american pizza i have once every 3 or so weeks, and it really hits the spot in that situation. Also for why to drink diet soda, yes it doesnt taste as good as original for sure, but when i eat junk food i like to chug down soda and chugging down diet soda feels way lighter than chugging regular soda. Plus the calories is a huge factor. Thanks for the chill pod.

I noticed that some people (Count Dankula and Tectone for example) can take a sip of soda and be burping for the next 30 minutes. Meanwhile other people can drink an entire bottle and not burp, or if they do it is like once then they are done.
