They missed an opportunity to make Batman slip out of brainiac's control for a second to reveal he had plans to take down every one of the justice league in case it was needed for something like this. Batman could say how to get his plans before giving his approval to kill him and do what they need to do to save Gotham. This could've been the perfect opportunity to kill the justice league at LEAST in a canonically sound way and use stay true to the comics/TV show instead of turning every death into a bullet sponge boss fight.

Personally... I don't mind if they killed Batman, what GRATES my nerves... is that the last recording of the legendary Kevin Conroy in his iconic role was... this... thing. Even Harley's characterization was... HORRENDOUS. Harley is not Joker, she has crazy in her, but a lot of empathy too, and her history with "Bats" is one of friendship even, if they wanted to kill Batman and make her do it they should have done it as a heavy moment, make Harley hesitate, make Bruce come out of mind-control for just a moment to say to her that he understands... but NOOOO... just spite. Reportedly, Sefton Hill and Ian Ball wrote pretty much the whole game, and are to blame for a lot of things. Newly hired devs were expecting to work on a single player game, but were caught off guard by the complete shift in direction in the studio. The devs weren't confident or happy with the project, but the leads kept pushing them. Sefton did all that and then jumped ship before release. Pretty scummy if you ask me. I had a lot of respect for him, but I don't anymore. Rocksteady dug their own grave. It wasn't Warner, it was them.

One thing to note is that a lot of the Arkham games that Rockysteady is known for, had a lot of help from the actual show runners of the original Batman Animated Series, which introduced a lot of stuff like Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze's tragic backstory about his wife, Nora... but these new guys took over and were like "Well, we'll make our own version but better.. and base it off the (poorly received) Suicide Squad movie!"

Behind the scenes, it all started with WB Montreal working the “original” Suicide Squad Game that supposed to be Arkhamverse and a sequel to Arkham Origjns. It was given to Rocksteady. However Sefton Hill saw an opportunity to make the game evolvement. He scrapped everything the game has and start turning into his own image. He started to make the game multiplayer puzzle game. However it caused so problems to the members of Rocksteady because they didn’t have any knowledge to Multiplayer game. What even worse is that Sefton Hill make it a looter shooter caused even more problems such as why take Captain boomer who use iconic boomerang to guns? Later on, more delays happened as they try to add vehicles as a traversal but they were already were. It was scrapped again. Later on Sefton Hill finally announced that he moving on to the next studio for a “new adventure” leaving them shock and unfinished game. So basically Sefton Hill is responsible for everything like live service, looter shooter, story, and everything else he responsible for and avoid the blame. While Rocksteady fail Suicide Squad. It still isn’t the end for them. Rocksteady is already working on a director cut for Hogwarts Legacy and moving to the next project to Single Player game. So they not being shut down, they are being recover after Suicide Squad. They hope that they can bring Arkhamverse back to it roots.

What makes this worse is that we'd like to think this is WB's decision forced onto the developers. But if the reports are correct, it was Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker (the founders of Rocksteady) who wanted this from the beginning. And then after seeing the development of the game going downhill, they jumped ship... leaving everyone working there to pay for their mistakes.

Wrong people do care about Harley, just not this one. This is supposed to be the same Harley we saw in the Arkham games who is nowhere near the nicer Harley we see usually, like BTAS. Arkham Harley was one of the evilest portrayals of her and they ruined it by making this game canon to those games. They also ruined her likability by making her kill Batman. If there was a villain to put Batman down it should never be Harley.

I definitely disagree with your take on harley bc she's actually an interesting character in her storylines. The misconception comes from terrible adaptations of her. The same can be same with tons of modern batman storylines bc there's this quote this one youtuber said where "if you can't imagine that batman hugging a child that's not batman" and it resonated with me a lot. Incorrect. It was not. There were two more performances after. One was Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2 and the other was another video game. Can't remember which. People did think that when Suicide Squid KTJL came out because his role in Crisis had not been announced, or the other thing I can't remember, so no one knew.

Could've had a decent Lolipop Chainsaw or Bayonetta parody game starring Harley Quinn with the rest being story-related NPCs and made it single-player with a reasonable story, solid gameplay pathing, and anything else that made those two games so popular. Maybe even throw in some of the many different cosmetic (and relative art) styles she's had in all media (as premiums if you must be greedy) and some originals that should be free to earn. Skimpy secret cosmetics would help boost sales too. But no... we're stuck between DEI/ESG scores and Live Services to ruin what COULD have been a great concept for a game.

Only thing I disagree with is people only liking Harley because she's hot. While she is hot, her character was very compelling and interesting before this game came out. Her story with Batman and Nightwing is still good. The only reason you say that is because the Harley in this game isn't Rocksteady's Harley from the past Arkham games or the ones in the animated movies, she's a ripoff. You can't be in in the middle of great characters like Batman and Joker and just be "hot."

They totally dropped the ball on this game. They couldve killed the Justice League, but done it the right way. They missed an opportunity to make Batman slip out of brainiac's control for a second to reveal he had plans to take down every one of the justice league in case it was needed for something like this. Batman could say how to get his plans before giving his approval to kill him and do what they need to do to save Gotham. This could've been the perfect opportunity to kill the justice league at LEAST in a canonically sound way and use stay true to the comics/TV show instead of turning every death into a bullet sponge boss fight.
