Rolling in dark souls is not to physically move away from attacks. It is to obtain i-frames during the attack. Rolling is just parrying with better restoration but no respite. By that logic if ur closer to ur enemy after ur roll thats better so if u can u should roll towards vertical attacks.

I gotta say, the fight with slave knight Gael was my favorite fight in the whole game purely due to how amazing his attacks were visually with the world ending as you fought. You fought not a god, or a lord, but another undead at the end of everything over the remnants of the Dark Soul. Legitimately had fun fighting him and felt so good defeating him in the end. Midir on the other hand, yeah, the rage was legendary. Lol 😆

Just played through DS3 as my first souls game, Gael was an incredible boss. He was tough, but I actually find him quite intuitive to fight. Midir on the other hand, I still haven't beaten. I wish Asmon had recognized Gael it would have blown his fucking mind. He met him in the Cathedral of the Deep and there's a reason he's so weirdly excited to have "found you". When you see eachother at the end of time that was Gael's plan. He sacrificed himself by hosting the Dark Soul to bring it to YOU hoping you could kill him and take the blood, knowing that he himself could never contain it, but he could FIND it. You take the blood to the Painter to be used to create a new world free from the cycle of the fires. It literally ends the story of Dark Souls by using the blood of this Dark Soul from the beginning of time, to create a new world better than the first. Meanwhile... Asmon doesn't recognize Gael at all. He takes the blood of the Dark Soul to the Painter to create a new world, thinking it's just some weird creationism project, fulfilling the mission Gael has been on since the _literal beginning of time_ ... and then Asmon kills the Painter. Funny as fuck, but ultimate Pepehands. Quite literally worst ending, universe ruined, blood of the Dark Soul left setting in a burning attic to rot for all eternity next to the corpse of the painter.

I got Gael in a handful of tries. Midir is the only souls boss in the entire franchise to require 15+ attempts from me. Almost the hardest boss in any souls game, imo. Just above Orphan of Kos and pre-nerf radahn and just below Melania, who I only beat in 12 tries because I had bloodhound step. That ash of earth makes the fight a lot easier.

Eh. Hit or miss really. In dark souls, you can get away with low vigor. What you cant get away with however, is too little endurance

@@Vodka_Reloaded Not really. Health is a lot more important than stamina. Dodging and most attacks take a pretty minor amount of stamina in this game, and it recharges insanely fast even without stamina regen boosting items. Unless you make a regen build your health isn't coming back without using an Estus. Obviously everyone has their preference for which they prefer more of but I find low stamina management pretty easy and I'd rather put the extra points into health.

@@PunkZombie1300 Ah. That explains why then. I use heavy weapons with minimal armor. So I have a god roll/high damage spec character. I've gotten used to having my vigor at around 20 with my endurance being at 40+. I find it easy to time my rolls though. For me stamina is much more important, but I also get hit very rarely unless it's an aoe or I accidentally hit a wrong button

Tbh, i was pretty ok with Midir out of the hard bosses trio: Midir took me 3 tries, Friede 7 and Gael 12. Though on 2nd playthrough Gael took me 1 try, Midir 2 tries and Friede 6 tries, so its hard for me to place Gael lol. That's pretty weird considering Demon prince took me 8 tries and 6 tries on 2nd playthrough for me being greedy af, even though the boss has pretty easy moveset.

Gael is not a hard boss, he just has a lot of HP and his attacks are pretty easy to read and dodge.

Midir is by far the hardest boss in dk3 so I know the struggle I’ve played every single dark souls in the series and the bosses I could not kill on my own was sister and midir

Slave Knight Gael is quite easily my favorite boss fight ever. Zero bullshit. No run back. Gradually gets crazier and crazier. Completely open arena. The story and design of this character is so fucking cool. I literally never get mad when he kills me, I’m like goddamn this is such a good fight
