The last old school Honda. These 6speed Fits are really amazing and such an enjoyable drive.

To anybody who owns one of these, do yourself a favor, keep the RPM out of the 1300-2150 zone. The engine has poor airflow in that RPM zone and as a result delivers poor efficiency, and causes jumpy acceleration on a cold engine. The sweet spot of this engine for power efficiency is 2500 RPM and the sweet spot for maximum efficiency is 1150 ... that's right. This car will get 60-70 MPG if you drive 24 mph in 6th gear on flat road (obviously don't attempt that speed/gear combo uphill). When I first got my 2020 Fit, I got 49-52 MPG 'hypermiling'. I quit hypermiling and it dropped to 45-47, but I would still drive a lot in the 1300-2150 rpm zone. I did some testing and discovered this dead zone in the RPM band, started keeping my RPM at or above 2200, unless I was coasting at 26 mph or less in which case I'd be at 1200 or so. I started driving much faster and really enjoying the road, shifting at 3500 almost every shift, cruising along at 40 MPH in 4th where I used to cruise in 6th, etc, and my average MPG dropped to only 42-46. The Fit is a whole other car when you discover how to drive it. My recommended shift points are 17, 27, 35, 43, and 50. Those should keep you from getting below 2150 RPM, but you can still shift at higher rpm when accelerating.

Great comment. I also keep my RPM as low as possible. I topped off the gas, then drove 55MPH for about 3 hours straight, went back to the same gas station (and pump) and topped off the gas again, I got 50.1 MPG.

Thanks for the info’. Noticed intermittent hesitation with cold initial acceleration around that range.

Looked like a fun drive! :) But then... Honda Fit: "Please fasten driver seatbelt" Hong Chan: "Shut up." Not very ASMR. :(
