Reading these comments makes me realize that at the end of the day, you simply can’t please everyone. There’s always people who want you to do something else. You do what you want to do, make your content indoor, outdoor, whatever, and the people who truly enjoy your channel won’t complain. They’ll just be happy to see an upload from Uncle ER to chill or sleep 🤷🏻♀️ Thank you for coming to my TED talk, and for making my Now good. 😂

Hey Uncle E! Thanks for the video. Little trick to help with the aeropress to help keep the water from filtering through too quickly is to immediately plug the chamber with the press after pouring. This creates a seal which will suspend the water and allow you to swirl it around with the beans and steep them for longer without needing to change the coarseness of the grounds
@EphemeralRift5 ай бұрын
i'll have to try the "plug & swirl" thing because doing what the instructions say: add water, stir, then plug & steep just causes more water to pass through. WHY CAN'T IT BE A PERFECT PROCESS!!!!! *cries*

Your comment on plants and their purpose is such an interesting one and one that's pretty hard to answer. One running theory is that coffee evolutionarily developed natural caffeine in it due to the fact that caffeine sometimes has laxative effects. This was useful for reproduction of the plant because birds would eat the coffee cherries and the caffeine in it would cause them to have to poop out the seed before digestion fully happened. Historians theorise that people in Ethiopia and Yemen saw this happen in wildlife and decided to use it initially medicinally as a sort of cleansing of the bowels, but found that when they consumed it, they felt more alert, energetic etc. Just in the same way that tea and other dried herbs were steeped in water to draw out their properties, the Ethiopian and Yemeni cultures started steeping coffee in water and thus started the begining of what we now use to fuel our dirty bean water addictions, and first dates
@EphemeralRift5 ай бұрын
as another viewer commented: there's also the fact that caffeine/nicotine developed as natural insect repellants for the plants themselves. it's an interest topic i might have to do a video on!

I'm a coffee fiend. I work hard to not get addicted, but I'm always trying new blends, roasts, and preperation methods. Mostly I'm into really dark roasts from Peru cold brewed for 3-4 days with a touch of milk and brown sugar! The hardest thing with enjoying coffee imo is being conscientious of how the beans are grown and by who. There are a number of US based companies that still use effectively slave labor on plantations in South America for their Coffee Beans and Coco, so before I buy anything I have to do research on the company and find out who their suppliers are and what their practices are.
@venturous1v5 ай бұрын
If you want a stronger and sweeter cup of coffee, you can use the original recipe for the Aeropress. Add grounds to the number 1 on the chamber that are ground somewhere between drip coffee and espresso. Add water up to the number 2 on the chamber. Stir for 10 seconds, then plunge it through slowly. This makes a smaller, but more concentrated brew which you can then dilute to your preferred level of strength. Doing it this way will make a stronger cup than trying to press a whole cup through because the water to grounds ratio is smaller and the short wet time will make a sweeter cup than letting it sit for 30 seconds before plunging.
