I mean they were on the oposit sides of the world, and with ship building and cartoghrafy not being advanced enough at this time to make the trip from Asshai to westeros. Agree with this post. Jaime Lannister also doesn't care about helping others or making the kingdom a better place. He couldn't give 2 squats about the realm or the world being better for all. To his credit he is concerned about the white walker threat and is willing to fight for life. On another note, when the night king moves south he is going to raise all of the buried corpses among them king, Robert Baratheon, Joffrey, Tommen & Myrcella Baratheon will all rise. Add to this Tywin Lannister, Shae, even Ned, Catelyn and Benjen Stark, Ramsay & Roose Bolton & his Frey wife will all be in the night king's army. The corpses of Hodor, Rickon & Osha will be out there walking in the frozen cold too. The night king will raise Little Finger, Lyanna Stark and she will kill Brienne, Sansa and those who visit in Winterfell's crypts. No Targaryen will rise since they are burned at their funerals.

We don't know how they made it, but my guess is that Dragonsteel was created by some ancient race with access to dragons we are not familiar with, and then thousands of years later, the Valyrians recreated dragonsteel in their own way, making Valyrian steel.
