I had a friend with diagnosed BPD. What I found strange was her boyfriend, whom I met several times, clearly fit the criteria of a dangerous and grandiose narcissist. We lost contact due to me calling him out and him sending me, no joke, 30 minutes straight of profanity filled text messages about myself being "ungrateful" that he had invited me into his social group. But what was most fascinating was my friend said she couldn't quit him: she believed he was her "special person" and she would endure any and all abuse to be with him. Most horrifying to me, she would use her BPD diagnosis as an excuse to endure him. The explanation provided her the reason and she actually found security in that.

Unfortunately people with BPD are the perfect victims for Narcissists and frequently end up in relationships with them (tenfold if the person with BPD had a Narcissist parent), people with BPD are especially vulnerable to a Narcissist’s manipulation tactics due to their distorted perception of self worth and high responsiveness to love bombing. From the outside looking in, people with BPD will come across completely irrational because they self sabotage constantly, they can have a healthy/loving relationship opportunity and will refuse to take it because they don’t believe themselves deserving of it, instead they’ll intentionally choose abusive partners that treat them in accordance to how little worth they perceive themselves to be (which in and of itself is a passive form of self harm). For friends, it’s especially frustrating as no amount of you telling them they deserve better ever manages to convince them otherwise. Your friend using her BPD to explain enduring his abuse could be a manifestation of her distorted self perception, tho it could also be something the Narcissist was intentionally grooming her to believe and her distorted self perception made her completely receptive to it. The message you received from the Narcissist telling you to be “grateful” to him is a good insight into the manipulative reframing he would’ve been using on your friend with BPD. People with BPD unfortunately create self fulfilling prophecies, they fear abandonment above all else but their own choices and behaviour put their friends in situations that force them to leave for their own mental health and/or physical safety. It’s unfortunate for your friend they stayed in that relationship but you definitely did all you could and cutting contact was essential for your own well-being, that Narcissist would’ve gone out of his way to make your life living hell for daring to oppose him like that.

A horrid case took place here yesturday. A Young woman was walking home from her work, down a main street in a city with her friend. There was a few people walking in front of the girls, one of them started shouting a few insults to a couple of lads across the street. The girl asked him to stop so he turned around and punched her out, he told socal media, two to take her down and two to knock her out . It was decided because he pleaded guilty he was only entitled to get a 3 year suspended sentence as it might effect his army career. So in Ireland a man's reputation is far more in need of protection that a woman who was knocked unconscious has lost her job due to the need of medical care and mental health who also had to waver her rights face this man in a court room again to hear this ! Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is often mischaracterized as a predominantly female diagnosis, but research shows men are equally likely to experience emotionally unstable personality disorders. Men are frequently mislabeled as narcissistic, antisocial, or psychopathic, despite exhibiting the same pathology as women with BPD. This gender bias marginalizes women and obscures BPD prevalence in men. Studies demonstrate that men and women exhibit similar rates of emotional dysregulation, highlighting the need to address this diagnostic bias (Grant et al., 2008). BPD is more prevalent in the general population than previously recognized and is equally prevalent among men and women. Let's stop gender mislabeling and focus on helping people struggling with these disorders.
@pragmatica_onpoint5 ай бұрын
@M-yb1cc Exactly this! And it even used to be the same with heart disease - practitioners would miss heart attacks in women thinking they just don't happen. When it comes to mental health there's not much difference in prevalence between men and women with most conditions - most disorders are equal opportunity afflictions, but clinicians still tend to have a gender bias about who gets what labels. It may be unconscious or unintended, but can unfortunately lead to people getting the wrong treatments and therapies.

Guys who pretend to be friends but want something else are very dangerous. Guys if you like a girl just show your intentions from the beginning, don't be a simp pretending to be friends because she would never change her mind once she puts you in the friendzone. If she doesn't show signals of liking you, move on, don't stay and be a friend, don't drive her to concerts. Contrary to what women are going to reply in the comments section, when they like a guy, women do anything to be with that dude. Also if you can't handle rejection go see a therapist, you are not a little boy anymore, you are not mommas little boy who made tantrums at the store because she didn't buy you the toy you wanted. It's time for you incels to grow up, feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to change your life. Accept failure and work to become a better person. Incels make women the center of their universe, that is why they can't handle rejection. Also understand female psychology, how they act when they like a guy, how to tell when she doesn't like you.
@THEFlea19912 ай бұрын
And if you’re a girl, don’t use someone who obviously has feelings for you for a free ride to a concert to see the guy you DO have feelings for. Not a good idea. Pretty shitty thing to do, also. And had she just left the guy she didn’t have feelings for and not used him and continued talking to him like an idiot, she would probably be here still. What he did was heinous, but she should have known better.

My advice for incels is to work your ass off and be smart about career moves. Once you're driving around in a convertible, you're bound to snag some woman, if that's your only goal in life. Ok not victim blaming but she definitely was using him and he felt used. He obviously was wrong for murdering her. She was definitely playing a dangerous game though. Throwing the word incel around doesn't make any sense in this case. To my understanding, these two were romantically involved. This automatically renders that term useless here. Hopefully people learn from cases like this. Dont catch feelings for an Instathot and dont trust men to not be violent. Again why were incels blamed for this? I would say (as someone with BPD) that because of my experiences with my caregivers growing up - where love was highly conditional, their moods could be erratic, affection and expectations were not consistent, etc - I find myself drawn to partners who resemble my parents in certain ways. I often am drawn to people whose affection is inconsistent and who are emotionally unavailable. I developed an attachment style which is overall disorganized but leans toward anxious-preoccupied regarding romantic attachments; I find myself almost repelled by other anxious-preoccupied people, but drawn to dismissive-avoidant people. Comfort in familiarity. I think, besides what Dr grande describes, this is why we often end up with antisocial partners. I've had partners who had aspd and npd, and we both did a lot of work with the support of therapy and medication, and the relationships have gone well, but I understand this is not the norm for such relationships. They CAN work, but you have to do a lot of work.

Isn't aspiring incel an oxymoron? The key trait of the incel is that the celibacy is involuntary. If the act, or avoidance in this case, is aspirational it is hardly involuntary. Secondarily I have been informed we aren't supposed to use that term anymore due to being derogatory to some of the trans community.

I've thought of this case almost every day for a couple of years now. It goes to show the extent of how bad us young men's mental health really is in this day and age. There's more people in the world than ever before, yet it's more anti-social than ever before. I myself as a young man who is only a few years younger than the murderer in this case can say with absolute certainty that men's mental health is severely neglected, and that is the root cause for things like this happening to such young people. In this case, a young girl lost her life and a young man lost his innocence and freedom to his demons. But nothing will ever change any of this, because everyone is only out for themselves in this world and no one truly cares about the future of our species. All anyone does these days is use and abuse one another, and one day, the entire world will end because of it.

I'm not sure if she had a sense of danger or not but I can tell you that she had very low self esteem and most of her teenage friendship and relationships had been online so IRL situations with people may have been new to her and she maybe didn't know what signs to look out for. They were friends, she believed they were friends. She hadn't had many IRL friends (she become socially isolated around 13 or 14 if I remember correctly) and had made it clear she didn't want to be exclusive, yet Brandon still inserted himself into her life. If Brandon did not want to be friends or hang out with her without a relationship he should have just left her alone and found another potential partner. Brandon said himself he was completely obsessed with her, to the point he was getting into trouble at work, I don't think she even knew he was that obsessed. She genuinely thought they were friends. And whose to say that if she rejected him and then stopped hanging out with him he wouldn't have done the same thing.
