Even when they fed them bread, it was soaked in that painful hot sauce. The prosecutor asked her if she would feed hot sauce to her dogs as punishment and she acted horrified and said of course not. But she clearly believes it was okay to do to her son? One of the saddest abuse cases I've every heard of. I don't understand how someone could be so cruel.

This reminds me of the Gabriel Fernandez case - where the mother & her boyfriend got custody of the 8 yr old boy for the welfare $$ & then tortured him to death in front of his 2 half siblings cuz they assumed he was gay (he had lived from birth with a loving gay uncle). There was a whole Netflix series about that case. I am curious to see why poor Timothy ever came under the care of that disgusting woman who happened to have given birth to him. As with young Gabriel, the people who did so meted out his death sentebce

When someone has intense disdain for somebody for no valid reason, then they have no problem with inflicting cruelty upon them. The cruelty usually isn't extreme physical abuse as in this example. It is often psychological or verbal abuse, but it is deliberate cruelty, nonetheless. This is a common trait with highly arrogant and narcissistic individuals. They enjoy being cruel and they get a thrill at seeing the distress they cause.

until USA government didn't decide to get every minor visited by a doctor (both physically and psychologically) at least once a year, MORE if they are homeschooled, these monstrosities will happen again and again. And if you think it's impossibile to check children so often, well, in Germany they do it, and if the minor is a baby they do even monthly, for the first years. I mean EVERY newborn, poor or rich, doesn't matter. If for some reason the appointment is missed, they come to knock on your door and check the whole house too.

After she dragged Timothy from the ice bath into the closet, Her last words to her son she killed was, "you owe me an apology, and you don't need your mouth open to breath dummy" (as she turned his head to the camera with her hand over his mouth) And Timothy took his last breath. Shanda really shocked us all (I know this family personally, was there at their wedding, and was close family friends with her husband since I was born) She lived a double life, and is a true abuser. She shouldn't even had Timothy in her care, being her parental rights were relinquished in Oklahoma years prior. She was only allowed supervised visits. There is so many details that didn't make it to trial. Like the video of what i described above, and the dynamics of the household. I hope they take care of her in prison. Adam, said husband, passed away a few months ago. They were legally separated, and he filed for divorce, which wasn't completed before he died. G their son is safe and with his fathers family

I mean, every criminal in the world would be upset that they got caught... I dont understand why people use this dumb logic Even if you regret doing something, its still the natural state of being to ALSO regret getting caught Give me one example where a person would not be upset for getting caught? Like, are you saying, every time you speed, you become angry that a cop doesnt pull you over you? Anyways, I think people who use this logic must have a very low IQ or something. Or maybe they just heard it as a child and just repeat it without thinking for themselves
@ukaszrybkowski2769

@@artyomarty391not every criminal is upset that they get caught. There are some serial killers who leave clues for the law enforcement, so they have a higher chance to catch them. And when they are caught, they sometimes show relief or at least, enjoy the attention.
@nanettevantriesteharder2469
@nanettevantriesteharder2469 Жыл бұрын
@@artyomarty391 Of course those with criminal mindsets will be angry when getting caught acting out on their worst instincts, because, if justice is served, they will be punished for their crimes. Yet, not everyone has a criminal mindset. That does not make noncriminals dumb or mean they have a low IQ. Noncriminals want criminals who are caught in their wrongdoing to have regret for their actions so they can be rehabilitated back into society without repeating their previous offenses. However, that is rarely the case. Just mouthing words of regret to make the victims' families feel better, does not mitigate the primary problem of a lack of empathy for the victims of criminals upon which they prey.

That's how it is with most people that are like this, unfortunately. They are only sad once they get caught, and are forced out of their life to look at what they're actually doing. If they are able to stay in their same life and get away with it, no guilt is to be had. Not saying that people don't feel guilty at all, as I've known some people who are in prison from doing some horrible things and have a lot of time under their belt and they found God and genuinely feel guilty and are making a hard effort to change themselves and their lives before they get out and also help others change their own life around. But I'm very aware that doesn't happen a lot and is often an act.

Did this woman think she was going to be 80 with her 50 year old son locked in a closet living off hot sauce? What do these abusive parents think is going to happen over time?

Of course, After all her criminal behavior I am surprised she called 911, I would have expected her to trash the poor soul's body. Nothing hurts my heart more than hearing about children being tortured and brutalized both mentally and physically by their own parents. Nowadays it seems like the state has to check on all parents and license them before they have children or else they will treat their children like property. Makes me so upset!

And what made it even more heinous when she used paul to do harm to his brother...which will probably torment him for the rest of his life. Testimony was giving on the hot sauce that she had him order on line and the severity of the scull hot sauce product. I was speechless at the callousness of this torture item. You put into words exactly what I was thinking, which makes it all the more tragic. Simply put, Shanda completely loathed her disabled son because he embodied all the things she didn't want others to see in her from a social standpoint. The fact that she was pursuing her law career and did well academically indicates she was an achiever who viewed herself as intelligent and extremely capable. Add a higher dose of narcissism to the mix, with a likelihood of psychopathy, and instead of seeing her son as a creature in need of resources, help and attention (which even a narcissist could potentially spin as "look how caring of a mother I am, I'm going to make sure he gets all the help he needs because that makes ME look like a good mother"), she simply saw him as a defect that needed to be fixed or eradicated. When the problem couldn't be fixed, she took her anger and disgust out on him overtly. The one silver lining in a situation this shitty, I suppose, is young Timothy can no longer feel any pain; he's finally been released from his burden. What really creeps me out is there are likely other instances where stuff like this is taking place as we speak and nobody knows about them yet. That's the kinda stuff that keeps you up at night. My thoughts on humanity have changed throughout the years, and this is my current philosophy on human nature: "There are good humans in the world, but the default setting if good things are not taught and reinforced is that humans are just as selfish and egocentric as any other creature. Ours is just infinitely more horrific and consequential because we have vivid imaginations and the anatomical means to bring thought into reality." Good analysis, as always. Im just glad she wasnt cunning enough to cart off Timothys dead body in the middle of the night (he only weighed 60-70 lbs at death) and disposed of it in some remote area...or even bury it in some shallow grave. As it would appear people simply didnt visit the home, and the house of horrors that occurred within. Luckily, she wasnt clever enough, and used a very lame and telling excuse of "hunger strike" concocted story.

Even a 5 year old knows, you don't eat, eventually you die. If he's so malnourished, putting him in ice baths would kill him - he has no body fat to regulate his temperature. I'd eventually die (and I've got "insulation"!) I can't believe this poor child lasted this long, a little illness would have finished him. I can't imagine what a sad, hopeless existence he had. I'd have to say yes to murder. What on earth was she trying to do otherwise? I'd maybe believe she didn't want to kill him because she enjoyed it too much! I remember when that other boy was found in the home locked in a room, that, the awful thing is there would be other children out there, behind closed doors, suffering in similar ways. I wish this was the last case, but I'm sure there's more to find. Her excuses are just infuriating.

How awful! It reminds me of Sylvia Likens, another teen who was tortured to death by her caretaker in a similar way. In that case, too, siblings and even neighbour kids participated in the torture. I would like to learn more about the psychological mechanisms that allow these things to happen.

@sarahdixon6011 I was wondering the same. Along with an underlying more serious form of mental illness beyond her "self confessed" diagnosis. Pitiful, power hungry sadist is what I see. No guilt or remorse, just pure anger and rage. She should have NEVER had custody of this child
@Tess78uk
@Tess78uk 11 ай бұрын
@@deborahrose8607she didn’t have legal custody. She was only supposed to have supervised visits due to previous child welfare concerns. Timothy’s bio father had full legal custody but apparently handed him over to her for permanent care despite himself holding the legal duty of care.

Actually they do sometimes. In fact I believe we have a regressive instinct that animals posses to kill our offspring if there is something fundamentally wrong with them. Animals will kill starve or abandon an offspring if the feel it will not survive or thrive. So being autistic and problematic I wonder if the mother had an instinct to kill him?

Animals very much do hurt their own off spring. Real life isn't Disney. You would have to spend like no time around animals to believe something like that. Most animals are adapted to kill off some or all of their offspring in tough times to increase the chances of survival. It's just how it is. We're supposed to better than our baser instincts. Does are known to not let one fawn suckle so the other has a better chance of surviving. They'll even eat the dead fawn after it starves to death. Rats and other rodents are well known for eating their offspring. That kind of thing being so common in nature might even be where people get it. It might be why it's so common for people like this mother to mostly target one child.

Where the hell are you getting this information from. Animals do and often kill their young. They often let them die if they are weak or kill them. And male animals often have to be chased off away from their young by the mothers to stop them from killing them. This behaviour is often seen in predators. bears, Felines and Dogs. Their instincts are telling them to do this. They don't want to torture them. It's just instinct. The want to torture and control and harm is a human thing.

Didn't the state point out that Paul called 911, she didn't want to? That was my understanding from watching the trial. She ran that place like a prison camp. Tim was bound and shackled, kept naked, given ice baths and deprived of sleep along with the starvation. He was made to work until he was too weak to do so. The house looked nice from the outside you would never suspect what was happening to that poor child.

Thank you for mentioning Paul. I really feel for that kid, she destroyed his life too. It was obvious he has some ‘mental challenges’ and she fed on them. He trusted her. One of his saddest comments when he testified was that he thought she loved them, but he realized she never did. 😢 He needs to serve time, what he did was horrible… but, I’m with you, 5 years would be about right and get him in counseling from day one.

She was a decent mother to her younger child which is the weirdest part. She was volunteering for their baseball games and would make sure that the youngest one got special treats even if she was low on cash. I don’t know how you can act like everything is fine with one child, while simultaneously torturing another child to death only a few feet away. Plus making the oldest participate in her torture and telling the oldest to be discrete about the horrors they were committing to the younger child. That’s how you know she knew exactly how horrible her actions were. If she needed to hide it even from her child living in the house, then she knew it would affect them and would make them inform someone.
