It's an act of war and a war crime to ground a presidential plane - or to search it. The life of the president of Boliva was wrecklessly endangered, considering that the worst aviation accident in history - Tenerife - happened due to a similar diversion. What US did by calling European countries, and what European countries did is sort f like breaking into an embassy by the host country in the host country, and then whatever, searching it., etc. Had Snowden been on the plane, and had the authorities pulled him off, that would be like Britain going into the embassy in London, and yanking Snowden out. But no, there were no war crimes, and no there was no act of war. If your looking for war crimes, Gearge "War Crimes" Bush most likely committed a huge one by invading Iraq. There was no provocation nor justification, he lied about that, and ruined a country, plus murdered probably 100,000 folks. So if you want to talk about war crimes, that's far far more demonstrable than this li'l Snowden affair. Surprised no one has done anything about it? Nobody even talks about it, but it's the elephant in the living room.

So, in the absence of a congressionally-approved declaration of war, I argue it's a war crime for Obama to violate a presidential plane. (Certainly, any country that tried to do it to Air Force One would get nuked.) More clearly, it was a violation of the Vienna Convention, which states: * "The premises of the mission shall be inviolable..." * "The premises of the mission, their furnishings and other property thereon and the means of transport of the mission shall be immune from search, requisition, attachment or execution." Again, presidential planes do count as "missions". Regarding George W. Bush, I think quite a lot of people are talking about his committing war crimes in Iraq. It's Obama who gets the free pass from Europeans and the rest of the world. And it's Obama, in turn, who gives the free pass to Bush and friends.

It sure was brutish and bullyish, given especially that no fugitive was on the plane. But it was not kidnapping. Forcing someone's plane to land, and keeping the plane from leaving until it's searched does not meet the definition of kidnapping. The person of the president was not the object of the action. How is it difficult to understand this? Kidnapping involves targetting a victim and taking possession of their body, taking them away somewhere, physically restraining them from going off. The US did not do this and had no interest in doing so. The President would have been free to go wherever he wanted, had he the independent resources. He's not the object of the operation. It sure as hell interfered with his plans and was an insult to the people of his nation, etc. Why would you regard it as kidnapping?
