The fascinating thing about synesthesia is that scientists justified it for years as being color associations from childhood and stuff. They didn’t think it was a real phenomenon until the last 20 years or so. While there may be patterns related to that, such as A often appearing as red, synesthetes often have their own unique associations that just are the way they are. I wrote my thesis on synesthesia so I’m so excited by this video! Scott, your brain is so cool!

I'm like the only synesthete I've heard of who doesn't have A as red and B as blue. A is green for me (roughly the color of Scott's letter D here) and B is red. Scott has the same colors for C and H as I do, though!

I do this too! I also see things like numbers, the alphabet, days of the week, etc. laid out spatially in my head. Like, the months of the year go around in a kinda oval clockwise fashion, starting on the far left (around the 9 hr mark on a clock face). And then there are certain months that are clumped together, like January, February, and March are all in the corner, but November and December are stretched out along the bottom. It’s been that way since before I can remember.

I associate genders to letters. I think it goes back to the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book I had as a kid - some of the letters must have been doing more feminine/masculine activities in the book that I associated them with. Like A, F, H, K, M, N, Q, R, S, U, V, and W are female, E, G, I, J, L, T, X, Y, and Z are male, but for some reason B, C, D, O, and P don't get a gender - they're neutral.

Holy shit dude... I don't have synesthesia, but I decided to play along and think of a color for each letter, and we picked the exact same colors up until "I." Then you started getting weird with it, but we even matched on few of the others as well. I feel like, kinda how you mentioned, that our brains subconsciously associate certain things with certain other things in the course of our lives, and in this case, it's certain letters with certain colors - whether it's due to the shape of the letter itself, the *sound* of the letter, or maybe you associate a letter with a sports team. I think that's a perfectly normal thing to do, though if you're constantly "seeing" things in that vein, then you have synesthesia. Luckily synesthesia isn't a disorder or anything (though it sounds like it *could* be a symptom of other brain issues, so...).

Fellow synesthete here, but I have sound-color synesthesia, also called chromesthesia. But unlike most, color is differentiated in my mind's eye by timbre instead of pitch. What you have is grapheme-color synesthesia. Those two forms of synesthesia are the most common kinds of it. So as quirky as it is, it's not unheard of.

I also do this for numbers, days of the week, months, and school subjects. And words sometimes. Most words that have a color for me have the same color as their first letter. R is red, so regular is also red. I think I give colors to U.S. states as well. Ohio is orange to me, even though I would usually say O is blue. Illinois is yellow but I is orange.
