This is so much more complex than I could have imagined. It's like a Swiss watch to tell your speed. No wonder all manufacturers are all going digital! That being said, love the care and detail in the restoration, not something likely to be said about restoring a modem digital dash in fifty years time.

Even in an electric car I’d still like the instrument dials to be analog, can’t stand electric speedometers

@@salvi1398 Definitely, that's likely why nearly all digital speedos are made to look like their analog counterparts. Porsche kinda hit the nail on the head by maintaining a beautiful analog tach, then utilizing the other space for digital. Not to mention the dash of the GM T.50. ᕙ( • ‿ • )ᕗ ANALOG STRONG!

agreed but nowhere near as complicated at a Swiss movement. When you see the breakdown of one of those it’s mind blowing. It still fascinates me that my watch requires no battery and constantly has a smooth second hand. That requires little to no servicing for many years

My father used to fix and restore vintage instruments, he did it for many years. One thing he would do on an old speedometer like that is to "machine" the axle that holds the magnet, with sandpaper. Just a little, enough to remove some grooves. and make it smooth again.

Beautiful! Great to see this almost lost skill being practiced in such a dedicated and competent manner. This has been a contention of mine for years in that the advent of digital display assemblies are (once the initial R&D is covered) by a country mile so much cheaper to produce, robotic rather than a human assembler. Yet we the customer pay way, way over the odds because we are hoodwinked into thinking it's better. I worked in the world of automation and of course it's amazing but the profile of the majority of the workforce is dumbed down as the Americans might say. Wonderful video, thank you.

Eh aston is cool and all, but they are behind the times. I love their heritage, design, iconic cars. But aston was always that brand that's about enjoyment and not performance or comparison to other brands. Which is nice for the aston fan. But in this modern competitive car market I think the direction this company is running is stagnating it. And thanks for your craftsman master craftsman, appreciate the lovely video But hey I am not CEO just my opinion And for the trolls, I am entitled to my opinion, won't reply to you since I muted my comment so threads won't notify me
