Btw Lauren, I just found your channel a few days ago, and I'm glad I did. You're one of the few people who actually really tries their very best to review material as objective as possible with all the little details. I'm planning to build my own pc (for the first time), and in my search for the right hardware you've already helped me a lot :). I know you're having a hard time atm with your sponsors etc., but I'm still hoping to see some similar informative reviews in the future :).

my favorite thing about your videos is how complete your descriptions are of everything! no detail left out. keep it up :)

You are correct that they are for temp probes, and combined with the fans headers next to them you can have better fan control. But there are no temp probes included in the box, you have to buy them separately.

One issue I've had with this motherboard would be the built in water block. Note, it IS just me being silly with it, but it's really easy to overlook (as I did). If you're using the built in block, don't leave the barbs unsecured. I had a blowout a few months ago and it literally scared the crap out of me. I was fortunate to have been saved by the backplate on the graphics card, but seriously, if your loop is sealed, you will get pressure build up through thermal expansion, and if you've got an unsecured barb (like I did) - you might not be as fortunate. Hose clips are 50p each and can save you a fortune :)
@darith2710 жыл бұрын
A thorough assembly would be to run the pump through the system with no power to the components (power only to the pump) for about a week to see if there's an expansion. How long was your system running for until your blowout?
@233kosta10 жыл бұрын
Darith Yim About a year. I tested it with just the pump for 48 hours, and then under prime + furmark load for another 24. The system could handle it with the custom fan profile, but I'd turned them down to 800 rpm that night. After 3 hours under gaming load (Bioshock Infinity), my computer just shut down. Took 2 minutes to notice the blowout, but it's fine now. Literally no component damage too :)

I agree, It's something I plan to work on in future videos.

Woa, this top makes you look like you're emitting an red / rose aura. Nice choice. Aside from that, nice reviews. The only thing I'm missing is technical / graphical charts / overviews blended in from time to time - that would make it perfect.

I absolutely recommend this board but can't comment on how it'll stand up against Haswell.

But quad channel memory doesn't even make that much difference and It's easier to overclock with just 2 sticks of memory anyway.

@master00sniper12 жыл бұрын
This mobo only supports dual channel memory, which you did mention in the video but didn't seem to say anything about it. IMHO, a brand spanking new motherboard designed for gaming should support quad channel. Everything else on the board seems top notch, but why not quad channel? Is there a more expensive model that has it? Is there a reason to not have it? All questions I'd love to see addressed in a review. I'm a fan of your video's, but sometimes it seems like they are too positive.

@IDGODROAR12 жыл бұрын
LOL, I didn't expect you to say that the motherboard "looks tasty". On a serious note, I'm having trouble deciding between the Max V Formula/Thunder and the Max V Extreme. This build will be a serious gaming/serious workstation pc (high-end 3D stuff, game design, etc.) Which do you guys recommend?
@Niels_K12 жыл бұрын
Because the memory controller is located on the CPU, not the motherboard. Since this is LGA 1155 it's dual channel. If you want quad, you'll need to buy a LGA 2011 motherboard. It currently won't give you any extra performance in games though.

Thanks for the review. I'm torn between this and the Maximus V Extreme. Any word from ASUS as to why they decided to go with such a small barb in the Fusion Thermo? Would have been nice to a nice G1/4 thread or at least 1/2 inch barbs.

My next build is going to be an 8350 paired with a GTX 690, is the "Formula" line of boards still the top of ROG line? If so, are you aware if they are working on releasing a different line anytime soon that isn't being discussed directly on the ROG forums?
@TastyPC12 жыл бұрын

Yes thats a important feature what make this board better then standard Z77 boards :)
@christopher463612 жыл бұрын
This is Z77 not X79, all Z77 boards have dual channel. You'd need a X79 chipset board with a Sandybridge-E processor to get quad channel, and like Lauren has stated you will not get any noticeable difference (none at all in gaming). If you want better ram performance ditch the four sticks and get just two of equivalent size that way you can run @ 1N instead of 2N. However this is still just a very small performance increase.
@intronaut858212 жыл бұрын
Very nice motherboard. Nice spacing on the card slots. Nice positioning on all the inputs. Red and black aren't my thing (my rig is white and silver with small amounts of black and gold) but it's nice looking. No dual 16x PCI kills it, though. I need my SLI.
@Paultrotter11 жыл бұрын
You missed out the PLX chip. the plx chip itself utilizes all 3 pci-e lanes so anyone who uses alot of there usb ports etc can without loosing any power to the gpu lanes. this is one of the expensive parts on this board. the ethernet port is from intel otherwise great review. and i thought you looked really good in matching colours of the board. thanks for your info youve really helped me in building my new pc i find your video's easy listening and you always give us all the info we need thx

no, both of them are 2 different chipsets. On the x79 the CPU socket is larger- to fit the 2011 :) and the z77 is for the 1155
@YasumotoUS12 жыл бұрын
That can be solved, in part, by adding just a few more camera angles. That means more editing and post-production work, of course. I thought that the black pedestal on which the motherboard sat was an excellent mechanism for rotating the motherboard and bringing it up off of the table surface, by the way.

You've done this? OCLab.ru set benchmark records with an 3770k only clocked up to 6.834 Considering that was done with subzero cooling I'd be interested to see how much more "extreme" your cooling was, because despite having an H100 and this board in my own system (in a high airflow HAF X case), I would never dream of clocks that high.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the "V" is actually 5, not the letter V. So it's Maximus 5, not Maximus V.

What happened to the box!!!! Took a bit of a whack in the bottom right corner. It's Asus 5 maximus, but V or 5 what difference does it really make?? Asus have been using Roman Numerals on the ROG boards since version 2 of the Striker/Formula days.

Bugs the crap out of me when they package £250+ boards in nothing, I know the rog packaging is pretty tough, but for the price you're paying how much would another box and a couple of air bags cost??? Review is cool, only thing I would suggest is when you do the motherboard close ups could you orient it so top's top please? I had a horrible feeling that the 24 Pin Power was on the bottom edge of the board for about a millisecond. :o)
