@@KlaireGearSeekers That was the way the original "hacker community" pretty much operated. In the old days before Microsoft became "The Evil Empire™" and then decided "Microsoft Loves Linux", back before "Open Source" was even a thing (because back when "home computers" were still a shiny new thing, pretty much **most** publicly available software was public domain), way back then, "hackers" weren't all vilified by the media. Back then a hacker was someone who enjoyed technology, enjoyed the puzzles and mysteries it brought with it, and enjoyed learning and creating, and sharing what they'd learned with other hackers. Solving new and interesting puzzles was often a hacker community endeavor when the problem at hand was interesting enough, and complex enough to be unsolvable by a single individual. It wasn't about what hardware or what operating system one used. It was about all the amazing new tech, and what we could do with it. It's good to see folks still trying to keep that mentality alive so many decades later. Also, loved the "Hit that Dislike button **twice**" comment at the end there… LOL

I mean, its been debunked already. It had to do with low quality POPSCAPs and MLCCs. Asus uses the highest quality components, which is why its one of the few that are not crashing apps. Manufacturers have already addressed the issue and are changing components in manufacturing.

Interesting take on the stability issues especially with the ROG Strix! While still early, I believe Steve from Hardware Unboxed suspected it could also be a driver issue. Its also partially the reason why most of the 3rd parties and nVidia have not said anything yet as I believe they are doing their own testing as well to find the issue. I recently picked up my Gigabyte RTX 3090 Gaming OC from mwave today and my card has the capacitors (all 6) that are potentially the issues. Fortunately I am not using this card right away as I will be using it in my future build when all my parts have come in; I will gladly wait for the concrete findings of the issue before I take the next course of action. Aside from that, great video as always Nick and Klaire, the ROG Strix is one sleek looking beast and not sure if you know but, as a geography nerd, the numbers on the bottom left corner of the card under the fan are the co-ordinates to ASUS HQ in Taiwan!

Nice to finally see a video on the big strix card! And very interesting finding with the crashes! I would have loved to see some more info on noise, to me (and I would guess to some others) buying the higher end cards is a matter of having a lower noise level at similar temps, not just having low temps - if that was the only goal we could all just run fans at 300 rpm ;)

Excellent use of isolation diagnostics to work out a problem.. Empirical evidence used to test and determine a potential driver issue, very much appreciate the unbiased review and methodology for testing in windows and linux without any fanboism, trolling or vitriol. Stats don't lie! Came across your channel through TYC thank you for your contribution.. Have just built a 10900K system for a client and pre-ordered this card so i'm sure by the time the card does arrive drivers should be sorted, and manufacturing reviews are completed to ensure no issues at both ends for a stable experience.

Managed to bag myself one of these beasts on release day should be arriving on the 5th, thanks for the review, the first youtube one Ive seen! Interesting take on the instability issues, as always you are bound to have teething issues with drivers on releases. However what makes it more difficult is the community who usually are the first to receive cards such as high end enthusiasts and overclockers, reports can make it hard to diagnose when you may not get the full picture simply due to some people not being happy that they cant overclock their Ampere frequency as high as their Turing card frequency OOTB. I have personally a friend who receieved a 3080 (Gigabyte I believe), isnt happy with his simply because it didnt overclock as high as his previous card, then obviously this MLCC vs POSCAPS reports surface and now people who cant get their cards to OC as high and crashing are also claiming its this. Binning of chips and drivers need to be taken into consideration here too, yes some people arent OC'ing and are having problems with OOTB cards which needs to be properly diagnosed and resolved. However others may have just lost the silicone lottery or be expecting relative frequency performance equal to their past cards and not getting it, Im no expert by any means but there's alot more to be taken into consideration as you say then just capacitors.

What version of drivers are these tests run on? I'm guessing it wasn't run on the new 456.55 drivers that came out this morning.

Looks like hes not using 3 pwr cables , but 2 with the jumper cable also. They do recommend to use separate cables for every connector to be sure your getting best power delivery and not induce any problems. I saw on reddit one user was having crashing and someone asked if using 2 separate cables, user with crashing said no 1 with the pigtail jumper. He changed to using 2 separate and problems went away. Heck a long time ago i think TechJesus even recommended it also in his YT video.

@@krlgrudzinski Phoronix is very busy reporting everything related to FOSS and test a lot of hardware very quickly so it's prone to errors whereas Pujet is focused on some specific productivity softwares. It's always better to have multiple sources to corroborate the results.

@PainterVierax
@PainterVierax 3 жыл бұрын
@@krlgrudzinski There are plenty of variables outside the Phoronix test suite which creates disparities in openbenchmarking results. The BIOS and OS settings, the cooling, the number of passes, the method of averaging, etc. Linux distros are highly tweakable, a simple change on the CPU governor can lead to different results. An Ubuntu fresh install has different settings than, for example, a Fedora or even a Mint. A server/workstation focused distro like Centos or Debian will make other preset choices more focused on throughput consistency or latency instead of perf. Finally, Mickael already made some inconsistent results pointed out in the comments. That kind of things can happen and a one-man media running low on resources is more prone to errors.
