Listening with Sony MDR XB500 headphones connected to a headphone amp I prefer the AT-8's sound, well at least to my ears I know audio is subjective, Love these comparison videos too Thanks.

Your right about the time alignment reasoning gor the tweeter reversal, if you look, the vs tweeter voice coil sits deeper then the at, this small depth difference is actually big when the wavelengths are short (tweeter fq) so looks like they corrected that slight time alignment by reversing the tweeter :)

I love the Sound of the AT-8's, they sound more natural as the VS 80 sound very muffled, missing a lot of detail as if the Upper limit is like 8Khz. I still think the SE models sounded better, which is one series older than the AT series if memory servers me.

I agree, the VS sounded ok on its own but as soon as I A & B them the AT kinda put the the VS to shame on the high end.

Thanks, now I'm gonna be looking for either of these sets for my rear channels, LOL. Have you ever messed with the SAT series from the 90s? Specifically the SAT-6S and SAT-6W combo? I'm about to pick up a set as I had planned to use the 6S models for my rear channels. Found them on Marketplace for $100 in good shape. Thanks for putting together this awesome comparison.

I'm not all that familiar with much of the new CV's. They don't have the high sensitivity ratings the older ones do (early 2000's and older).

Got CV Re 30. Speaker calls for 2.5 Amp fuse. Where is the best place to purchase? 2 Amp are easy to find, wondering if that would be okay using a 2 instead of a 2.5. Thanks
@SavingVegas
@SavingVegas 6 ай бұрын
They are 2.5 amp slow blow fuses. I get mine from my local electronic parts store. I'm pretty positive Amazon has them as well as there are some available on Ebay too. If you are unable to get slow blow fuses you can use a standard 3 amp fuse. A standard 3 amp is more likely to blow before a 2.5A slow blow so you should be safe.
@rrover9134
@rrover9134 6 ай бұрын
@@SavingVegas Thanks for the quick response. Amazon has the 2.5 slow blows. Went to Ace and Auto Zone and they didn't have them. All I could think was Radio Shack would have them if they were still around.

Just bought a pair of cerwin Vega L-36pe 18 inch horn subs and I noticed yes they have bass but they rattle a lot and I pulled of the face. The spider has come undone from the coil where it’s been glued☠️ Suggestions?
@newklear5463
@newklear5463 6 ай бұрын
you're gonna have to take the dust cap off, reshim it, and reglue the spider. if you just try to glue it, it probably wont be centered properly, and it'll rub.

Interesting, so many CerwinVega! Speaker models, sometimes very little changes from model to model however definitely differences throughout the years. I think that’s part of the appeal to them is that there is so many versions. Geez I just wish they could come out with a wicked new model based off the old design but it’s not in the works yet. However it is being discussed I seen a sneak peak at a new line they are bringing out very soon called the LA series ( cool name ) but not what us die hard fans are wanting. It’s a cheap slim line multi woofer jobbie. However the new Vega series studio monitors look pretty good and apparently sound good.

@@SavingVegas the fit and finish on the SL models is pretty bad. Frustrated knowing that CV no longer made a decent looking speaker I bought them knowing I was going to completely re do them after a long list of both cosmetic and sound changes the end result is really quite good. Great imaging, detailed , loud and very clean bass. I had fun doing it and would love to do it again. I was thinking of getting a pair of Polk Reserve 800

The At-8 sounds more "natural". I prefer the VS-80 but I can imagine that after some listening fatique may set in as they're hard hitting, flat and aggressive.

You think a Sansui au 717 will push at15s to the limit and sound good?
@SavingVegas
@SavingVegas 8 ай бұрын
I think that Sansui would run a set of AT-15's very well and should sound great. I wouldn't say that amp would be able to push them to their limits, the AT-15 can handle a lot of power as long as it is good clean power. I have used a small handful of different amplifiers all rated at 200 watts per channel or more on my completely restored D-9's. Currently using a Cerwin Vega A-1800 rated at 225 watts at 8 ohms minimum across the frequency spectrum and in order for me to reach the limits of the amp I have to have hearing protection on. I hit 114dB on my spl meter while measuring in the middle of my 36'x36' shop with the speakers mounted in the 2 front corners. On average most people don't use more than 10 watts at above average listening volume. Take into consideration that most CV's have an above average sensitivity rating so they play louder than most other speakers. So unless you really want to blast them the amp you have is just fine as long as you know the limits of the amplifier. If you are wanting something bigger I would suggest a good quality high current power amplifier that's rated around that 200 watt per channel range, also one that is at least capable of driving 4 ohm loads as those AT-15's will load up an amplifier at certain frequencies.
