ATF Silencer Wait Time - July 2024 Update

Over the last 2 months i have purchased 9 cans- all processed as individual. Longest was 4 days due to a holiday weekend, shortest was 1 day 14 hours. The time is now ladies and gentlemen- they are processing them fast right now, and although they say this is the new normal, very easily could change it back to the way it was tomorrow. . . .

Moved from IL to IA on a Saturday. Got my DL on the following Monday (temporary). Went to a Scheel's on the following Saturday, bought a suppressor that afternoon, got fingerprinted, etc at Scheel's. The next week Monday was a holiday, got a call on Wednesday that my suppressor was ready to pick up that day. So technically, 2 business days to get approved.

I applied my eform 1 SBR as traditional trust with 2 responsible people and it was approved on the 5th business day’s morning around 10:30 am.

I thought if you left your suppressors in a will, that individual would have to get a new stamp for each suppressor. Can you elaborate on that subject?

With a will the assets will go through probate court which does publicly list what is being transferred. ℹ️

One on a Single-shot trust took 91 days. Then one as an individual came back in 13 days. I have another in a single shot trust, and it has been about 21 days now, and I would not expect that approval until around mid-October or so. I like the single-shot trusts, so I can allow certain friends and family to access certain items. (The problem with a general trust is, any person you add has potential access to any item in the trust. - You may not want to allow all those knuckle-heads access to your expensive full-auto stuff.) I have told folks that if you are in a hurry, then buy it as an individual. Once you have it, you can always put it in a trust later for just another $200 stamp, but you will have it to enjoy, and it will not matter to you how long that transfer takes. (But in reality, once you have 2 or 3, it does not seem like a big deal to wait around for additional ones.)

I bought a dead air mask, I filed my eform 4 as an individual on July 16, 2024. I am still waiting for approval 30 plus days later. I called the ATF and all they would tell me is that current wait times is 60 days. A guy I work with filed an eform 4 as an individual 2 days after me and was approved the next week. Why everyone is being approved very fast and I've been waiting for over a month and still counting, I have no idea.

I think it depends of where your form fall on whos batch of paperwork. Your form can luckily fall into a fast hard working employee, or it can fall into some slacking employee whos doing the bare minimum too. Sooo much can varies.

A few on a trust have taken 4 months. Most recently did 3 as an individual and all less than 4 days. I had one trust pending when I did an individual and it didn’t get batch approved. I also two approved as an individual the same day, but several hours apart so they weren’t batched.

I used Capital Armory and a Trust. I waited 55 days from Form 4 submission until approval. I had to wait an additional seven (7) days due to the CLEO notification requirement. I plan to do a video on my YT channel about the process. Last suppressor took a year to get approval.

I have a question. A genuine question so please explain as thoroughly as you can to me. When I first got into the firearms world, so many people online would say, "registration leads to confiscation". I took this very seriously because their arguments were compelling. Why now are so many people withing the firearms space registering firearms like short barreled rifles and buying registered items like silencers? If anyone could explain this to me, I would appreciate that.

I posted an update on the last video so I'll just move it over here: I purchased a Surefire RC3 on a single shot trust thru Silencer Shop on the 21st of feb. Went to my local FFL to certify on March 6th. Went home and got the notification my form 4 was waiting for ATF approval that same day. It is now the 1st of August (day 148) and my form is still pending ATF approval at this time. Will update again when I have been approved. Dear god it better not take the full 6 months Silencer shop is saying it may take. I will NEVER do a trust again.....half tempted to buy another NFA item just to see if they get batched and approved.

Tax stamps don’t transfer. If you file as an individual your inheritance will have to pay $200 again to transfer ownership.
