I'm English, but MLF was incredibly lucky in this race, he's been an average sprinter since he came into the senior ranks, Maurice Green shows that even though he's got some years on MLF, he will go down as one of the all trime greats. Fantastic final, I remember being on the edge of my seat throughout

also I said if you think about it, the US doesn't compete in that many international meets in 4X100 only the top sprinter compete in relays early in the season. Now if u go back in time, none of the relay teams that was ever anchor by Lewis never lost and the reason was because those teams were very experience. Look at the team that set the world record in 1992, lewis, burrell, mitchell and marsh were very experience!

That is probably the best commentry i've heard on this race. The americans were stupily bias towards their team, but i don't really care becuase it was sent out to the american audience, as is the same as the GB commentry.

Here my point, look thru all the comments from most brits, they have all said that they dominated the 4x100m since the beginning of time. I point out that you beat the States once! They can celebrate as much as they want, but don't get it twisted that the Brits has been the "dominate force" in the 4x100m.

the only thing I will give credit is to Francis because he did something that Chambers, I know cheat couldn't, Hold off perhaps that Greatest 100m sprinter in history on the anchor. So I am not going to take that way from him, but the popular belief by many, if Gatlin and doesn't screw up that exchange to Miller, US wins going way, but of course that didn't happen and as shown here GB was the victorious, PERIOD!

no worries! I was just saying that with Powell and now Bolt, Jamaica would seem to be the more faster team, however I also thought that this US team that featured Greene, Gatlin and Crawford(all ran under 9.90 in that Olympics) would of won the gold and perhaps the world record too! The US trials are at the end of the month. I just want to see who else will be on the team, beside Tyson Gay!

One example I can think of from the article is a shot putter called Heidi Kreiger, an East German athlete who has now changed her name to Andreas, such is the horror of the steroids she was forced to take that she had no choice but to assume the role of a man.

When the Bahamas won in both years, the US women had injuries to Marion in 99 and Ingrid Miller in 00, when they were both injury-free, what happen in those years, US woman won! Also what happen on 2005 worlds, I think the US woman won Gold over both Jamaica and the Bahamas, even without Marion. Also Marion wasn't even supposed to run in the 4X100, the reason why she was placed on the team was at the last minute, due to Gail Devers suffering a Hamstring injury

I do agree about that. However so did the East Germans and the former U.S.S.R from the 1976 Olympics to 1988 Olympics. Look at some of their world records in track, the 400m or 4x100m, they stood for over 20+ years and hasn't been threaten. Their women look more like men. Funny when the 2 Germans unified after 1990, the athletes from the former East Germany was dominant in track or swimming, like they once were. Funny when their coaches went to train the Chinese they had some years of dominance

jrussell04 -- You Canadians have your memories, too. Remember 1988? Oh, sorry :-) Someone else may poke through here or there, but overall, the USA team can't be beat. That's why we've generally dominated the mens 4X100 for decades.

if PNETriffid "merked me" why than he couldn't argue the fact beside this race, when has GB every beaten the US in a 4X100m relay, perhaps once. The US has far more gold in this event then everyone else. At least if the US said they only lost this race because of the bad exchange between Gatlin and Miller, at least Canada beat the US convincingly in 1996. So again hold tightly to your memories of 04, because yesterday was just a preview of next year!

Everyone here was agreeing or disagreeing about GB's victory and US dominance in the 4x100! In fact, I would be willing to guess that the reason Ben was caught is because the US was annoyed at not winning, and therefore tipped the IOC off that Ben was using drugs- knowing full well that thier own sprinter was doping too. You see, this is the reason the US has been dominant through the years in sprinting.

And for my final post today: (Back to American athletes) Even Florence Griffiths Joyner was suspected as a cheat. Nobody has even come close to her 100 and 200m records. In fact, her 100m record was 10.49! I mean, think about that: the NEXT FASTEST to her is Marion Jones, with 10.65. Now, consider that Marion was later found as a cheat, so this time is tainted. The NEXT fastest time is... wait for it... 10.73! (Shelly ann frasier) I mean that is 2 and a half tenths slower!
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 17 жыл бұрын
They lost to Argentina. Bare in mind the best of the States players didn't show up because they were afraid of the security risk. Also this is not 1992 when the rest of the world was in awe of the States when they feature Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson. By the way, who is the best golfer in the world? Elridge "Tiger" Woods. Last time I check he is American. Who won the most Major in history? Jack Nicklaus(18)! He an American too!
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 16 жыл бұрын
I meant, Canadian Sprinting hasn't been the same since Bailey, Surin and Company won every major relay title from 1994 to 1998! Well expecting the 1998 Commonwealth Games, when England won! Back then you had sprinters that were competing on the world stage and doing ok, much better than Canada was and is doing today!We can argue about this race, it's not going to change the outcome.Like I said, this is the past, move on with the present. Baring and mistakes, either Jamaica or US will win Friday
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 15 жыл бұрын
And that is also why that only men from those areas along with guys who backgrounds can be trace to the Caribbean or Western Africa or even the US has all better the 10 second barrier. As you can see, no white sprinter has ever broken that barrier. Regardless, as long as Usain Bolt & Asafa Powell are racing in a relay together, no country will beat them. It will take a poor exchange, just like in the 2007 Worlds to beat them.

also, look at all of Trevor Graham's athletes, dating back to Marion Jones, they all were caught and was banned for 2 years or from the sports. Jones, her former husband C.J Hunter, Petigrew, Dennis Mitchell, Crystie Gaines, Tim Montgomery, Justin Gatlin all were under Graham and all were caught. Tim and Greene really to off in 1997 at the US National when Greene beat him by only 0.02second (9.90 to 9.92); But while Greene became better and got faster Tim couldn't match up against Mo or Ato.
@fungboy3
@fungboy3 13 жыл бұрын
@Lervon Off course the same suspicion lead to catching Marion Jones. The only freak i remember was Ben Johnson 1988 turning up in ripe roid muscles and then blowing everyone away an unbelievable world record Only to be found out few days later and he admitted he was doing it for years.. funny thing that because on the circuit he would get beat but in the championship he seems to win
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 17 жыл бұрын
also consider this, none of the Brits sprinters got pass the quarter-finals of either 100m or 200m, Greene ran 6 rounds in the 100m&relays , both Gatlin ran 9 rounds between both the 100,200m&relays and Crawford ran 10 rounds between 100,200,relays, so the Brits were the fresher of the 2 teams, but still and lets be honest, if it wasn't for 2 bad exchanges in the 1st two, do you really think the Brits would had beaten the US, HELL NO!
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 16 жыл бұрын
The other excuse for the Brits is they only have 60 million people compare to 300 million. Up to this day, no one can tell me why than the Aussie had more medals than the Brits in the last 2 olympics, when your country population is smaller that theirs! I calling thing the way I see, I'm not going to be bias because my legion to my flag, which is Canadian. I'm a track fan, whether I root for the States, Canada or Jamaica, I'm a fan and love track, anyways talk to me after aug 23, 4x100 finals!
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 17 жыл бұрын
I was half asleep, my bad. If we are talking about comparing Olympics to Worlds, yes the olympics is higher.But beside 2004 how many times has Britain won and beat the US in the 4x100. Look thru history, not Britain rarely has beaten the US, considering GB always have some of the best sprinters in the world outside, Christie, Regis,Chambers. Hell Britain never even held the world record in this event.
@BDQ1975
@BDQ1975 17 жыл бұрын
So when you see in the past 15 years, as you brought to this discussion, GB beside,93,99,03,05,07 worlds and 2004 Olympics,when GB has medal,have you guys dominate,like so many here are making it sound like. NO! There has been 12 major championship in those 15 years, GB has only won once! The US won 7,Canada won 3,GB and France won 1 title each between the 4 Olympics and 8 Worlds in that time.

And, furthermore, I would like to say that given the circumstances, we actually do very well as a nation at sprinting- at these recent World Championships, our sprinters have frequently been making finals. In fact, we are the ONLY European nation which is consistantly making sprint finals. To cap it all off, the US with all your money and athlete programmes is clearly in decline due to the emergance of Jamaica.

the only thing I said about your 4x100m relay was GB was lucky. I mean really did anyone of you, as much as you love your team and country thought GB could of beat the States when they featured Greene(Bronze medalist, the 100m WR holder at the time), Gatlin(Gold Medalist in that same Olympics), Crawford(the 1st man to run 9.89 and not medal in a major 100m finals).When I voice my opinion, all you Brits got so mad and upset and start to make your comments.

I agree 100% with your reasoning and am sure she took illegal substances, but firstly, so many women then and since have too, and still the haven't come close to her time, and modern sprinters are a lot more lean and muscular (what a lot of the cheating must be to gain) than she was and still they're nowhere near. Well the trouble with the '04 team was the same thing that haunts the USA mens and womens 4X100 in every olympics whether they win or lose -- TERRIBLE baton passing. A slightly slower team can beat the USA with better baton handling. Bolt's recent race had USA finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th, but don't expect them to win the 4X100 because of it. I'm bracing myself for more bad passes and silver or bronze, no matter how fast they run.

My point is the the US has a terrible history of Doping offences, and the fact that Lewis was found as a cheat leads me to believe that a whole host of other American athletes through the years have cheated and not been found out. I mean, CARL LEWIS. He was once thought to be the 'golden boy' of athletics. And if my memory serves me correct, that 2003 report also mentioned a whole host of other athletes competing at the same time (1988). Disgraceful.

as for the woman, US would of won that too, but Marion Jones fucked up! Look what happen at the worlds in 2005, US woman did win that won. Sprinter Relays are all about great exchanges. The Brit teams has ran together in numerous relays, especially when they have more major international meets, Europe Championships and Commonwealth Games.The US national team doesn't run together that much. The top sprinters usually run with their club at events early in the season.

I refuse to believe, in this age where the men have got faster and faster consistantly over the past 2 decades, the women have made NO improvement towards 10.49! The reason suspected for this is that the 10.49 must have been tainted. I mean 10.49 was edging towards male times! Especially back then when the men were slower (The mens record in 1988 stood at 9.86). The fact that Flo Jo then retired in 1988 (at her peak) JUST BEFORE drugs testing was to become mandatory (1989) is very suspicious.

Lewis-Francis, what a waste of a talent. In fact, during that era from 2000 to 2004 we had a squad of brilliant sprinters and they all underperformed bar perhaps Campbell and Devonish. Chambers being the worst of the lot. This won't be repeated for millenia judging by the current state of UK Track & Field, we're at an all time low and might struggle to muster on gold in London 2012.

The emergence of Jamaica isn't a coincidence. A country does not just become 'phenomenal' overnight. Jamaica have been threatening for years, with great sprinters which have been held back by the DRUG TAKING ANTICS of American sprinters. The US athletics association clearly did not care in the past about thier athletes cheating, and Jamaican sprinters could not come close to the US for years.

Yes I wish I had the class and intellect to use such learned terms as 'ass-clown' and 'whoop your ass'. Furthermore, I wish I could spell complex words like 'weigh', and know when to use capital letters, and full stops (periods to you New World sophists).
