Went to Athens for the first time last month and the first food stop was Elvis souvlaki Unreal how good it was! I had the pork souvlaki w chips and it was a great start to my first vacation in Greece!

So exciting. I spent two years on the island of Cyprus where I lived in the Greek sector. At that time (in the 1960’s) there were many street vendors preparing and selling souvlaki that was absolutely delicious. They simply served the souvlaki on pita with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, the meat and then squeezed a lemon over it all, no tzatziki or potatoes. My wife and I are getting ready to return to Athens and we want to thank you so very much for pointing out the great restaurants you ate at, we will be sure to try them all.

You got taste and you are aware of the differences. for sure you are greek, this is why you have a different view on this kind of food, like i do :-) Great video and interesting to see your valuation since it happens to know all but one place. Mimis unfortunately is closed since July 22 already, talked to the co owner, they are looking for another location, in deed an "open minded" a great variation of Gyros. Fun Fact: been twice at Achilleas, both times around 7pm - both times theyve been sold out / preparing only pre-ordered. Same can happen at Kostas (the first one in your video) since he has a given ammount of portions per day, can happen that he runs on empty as early as 3pm

Hello there and thank you very much for your comments! Really sorry to hear about Mimis. I hope they find a great location because their concept was unusual but very well excecuted! As for Achilleas,if I lived in Athens I would pay for an entire Gyros (not one pitta but the whole Gyros) to be made and delivered to me!!!! It was just amazing!

Μόλις σε ανακάλυψα κ βλέποντας το βιντεακι αυτό, στη μέση περίπου, λέω ααα δεν μπορεί πρέπει να είναι Έλληνας δικός μας άνθρωπος δηλαδή, που ζει στο εξωτερικό κ ήρθε στην πατρίδα για 3 μέρες να φάει κ να θυμηθεί τα μεζεκλικια μας.. Ελπίζω να χόρτασες αρνάκι :) Γεννήθηκα και μεγάλωσα στην Ελλάδα (όλη η οικογένειά μου και όλο το σόι ζει στην Ελλάδα ακόμα), αλλά ζω στην Αγγλία εδώ και 30+ χρόνια. Το κανάλι αυτό το έκανα για να επιμορφώσω τους ξένους μια και (δυστυχώς) στο εξωτερικό υπάρχoυν πολλές εσφαλμένες αντιλήψεις για το τί είναι παραδοσιακό/αυθεντικό ελληνικό και τί δεν είναι. Και μια που πολλοί φίλοι μου (ξένοι) με ρωτάνε συνέχεια που έχει καλό φαγητό σε συγκεκριμένες πόλεις στην Ελλάδα, αποφάσισα να 'θυσιαστώ' και να κάνω αυτό το βίντεο για να ξέρουν που να φάνε καλό σουβλακι, γύρο, κλπ στην Αθήνα...εννοείται ότι στην έρευνα με βοήθησαν πολλοί ντόπιοι, φίλοι, συγγενείς. Και δεν μετανιώνω για την ποσότητα που έφαγα!!!!! Και βέβαια αν έχεις και εσύ, ως Αθηναία, να προτίνεις κάποια άλλα μαγαζιά (δεν είναι απαραίτητο να είναι σουβλατζίδικα, μπορεί να είναι εστιατόρεια, ζαχαροπλαστεία, κλπ) θα τα προσθέσω στη λίστα μου για μελλοντικές επισκέψεις. Την αγάπη μας από την Αγγλία!! :)

The only known space for spicy souvlaki is called "kafteros"(special hot sause) and its at the area of Halandri. Check it out next time :) (i think it opens after 7 in the afternoon)

We decided not to post any prices for two reasons: a) As we filmed the video in May, those prices may no longer be valid due to the continuing increase in the price of food around the world, and b) if someone watched the video in the future, those prices would be irrelevant anyway. So, we thought it would be best to concentrate on the quality of the food, rather than its pricing :)

fuck meeeeee I am hungry now! When I am in Athens, I mostly end up eating a pita gyros at Posto in Maroussi, but I will check Hoocut for the skepasti and maybe Elvis when I walk back from keramikos in May 2023

Do you know that there is more than souvlaki. Most British people eat street food and than think souvlaki is all there is to eat.

Hi there. Of course there is more than Souvlaki. However, when one thinks of what is the most traditional Greek street-food, Souvlaki comes at the top of the list. Souvlaki, Gyros, kebab have been the main 'on the go' foods in Greece for years, together with meats that accompanied them (Panseta, Bifteki, Loukaniko). There are other traditional savoury street foods like Kastana (roasted chestnuts), Kalampoki (grilled or boiled corn on the cob), Koulouria, as well as numerous pies and pasties, but all these are more like a snack to keep your hunger in check, rather than food to actually fill you up. Can you think of anything else (excluding foreign foods like pizza, crepes, etc) ? This particular video is a result of many months of looking for the best 'old-school' places in Athens (with the addition of a couple more modern ones) as recommended by local foodies. So, as the title shows, it is for those who visit Athens and want to eat some of the best souvlaki, kebab, gyros, panseta, the city has to offer :)

Συμφωνούμε στο ότι όσον αφορά το μέγεθος δεν είναι τόσο μεγάλα όσο πχ στην Κρήτη ή στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Αλλά από γεύση είναι εξίσου πεντανόστημα :) Μην ξεχνάτε πως τα παραδοσιακά κεμπαπ, πιτόγυρα, κλπ που πρωτοκάνανε την εμφάνισή τους στην Ελλάδα δεν είχαν πατάτες,κλπ, επομένως ήταν μικρά σε μέγεθος.
