Both guys dug in on the preferred coach type. I liked the respectful disagreement between the two.

This is such a good conversation of Robert's analytical "Here's what I believe they should do" contrasted with Mike's journalistic, insightful "Here's who they are and why they are doing what they're doing."

I've only ever heard Sando's voice before this pod. I thought he was wayyy older than he is. His voice sounds like someone with many decades of experience.
@Smooterino18 сағат бұрын
Same. For some reason, I originally imagined him as some guy in late 40s, early 50s with a big, bushy mustache. Was a surprise to see that voice belonged to someone that (relatively) young.

Too funny. I’ve never seen Sando either and I assumed he was MUCH older.

He does have many decades of experience! The man is a paragon of health. He'll be one of approximately four NFL media people who gets a workout in every single day of Super Bowl week in New Orleans.

I truly believe the reason to hire the offensive minded head coach is not just because the "leader of men" has to get his coordinator right, but as soon as he does that guy leaves as a head coach (unless he's Ben Johnson) and after 2 or 3 the well just runs dry...

On the bears conversation which I thought was particularly engaging, I think a lot about how McDermott handled the OC in Buffalo over his tenure, started with Dennison and was not satisfied and went to daboll, successful years with daboll into losing him and Dorsey, with Dorsey statistically the offense was great but something didn’t feel right, and mid season they move on in an aggressive move to Joe Brady, which has obviously worked. McDermott, to many fans frustration, has always had an offensive identity since day 1 though, aggressive decision making and insistence on building a run game and being multidimensional and he was very vocal about it. But I think being a leader is integral, and I think where I disagree with rob is the combination of a qb that gets OCs excited and good coaching talent recognition and pipeline can be stable enough to compete with having a “genius OC” as a head coach

Super interesting podcast as always On a side note. I listened to the "GM podcast" and a lot of the other stuff on the athletic that he's been in. I never saw his face, and in my mind, because of his voice mostly and how elequant he is I would have guessed him as beeing 20 yrs older. Mind blown.

The ceo type or dc only works either when the coordinators around them are great or if the qb is. QB being great is more indicative of long term success, without that qb if you hire a ceo type or dc you’ll probably fire him within 3-5 years. So if you have a young qb or plan to draft one hire a oc that they can work with. If you have a great qb, get your Harbaugh and profit. If you don’t have either you’re probably not getting the actual good coaches anyways and will have to settle for a one and done until you build a better situation.

I would like to point out that Baalke played this exact same game in San Francisco. He's a genius at convincing young, impressionable billionaires that he's the smartest guy in the room. Dude is a hack fraud, and the contrast between his career and Harbaugh's post-San Francisco is example enough.

You can't take 9 top 100 picks and ONLY get 2 replacement-level starters out of it. Cincy's been investing heavily in defense with nothing to show for it. Lou's performance in Cincy was a lot worse than people think it is; he's been coasting on those 2020/2021 seasons for years.

They're not. Dan Campbell was an offensive guy.
@snomrom659521 сағат бұрын
Because defensive guys seldomly provide what offensive play callers do so you have to sell yourself on them some other way.
@snomrom659521 сағат бұрын
Like scheme and strategy elevate offenses more so than defenses. And good defensive mind will addd wrinkles that turn a play or two or three your way but for the vast majority of plays defensive success comes down to whether or not you have the players and luck.

Robert always thinks he is right and tries to bulldoze other opinions because he is in charge of the show. He does it to his regular co-host all the time who is a really good analyst and watches every game. To be clear i agree with robert most of the time but i have noticed this treatment with co-host who disagree with him for a couple years. He probably doesnt mean to or realize he is doing it but he does.
